Royal Enfield Sherpa FT Mk2 Debuts At 2026 FIM Flat Track World Championship
Royal Enfield has entered the 2026 FIM Flat Track World Championship with a purpose-built racing machine called the Sherpa FT Mk2. The Chennai-based manufacturer made its flat track racing debut at the opening round in Roden, Netherlands, on 9 May 2026. It marks the brand's first appearance in the FIM series.
Gary Birtwistle, founder of Dirt Craft Race School, takes the controls for the season. The 36-year-old Briton is a two-time national flat track champion and three-time Twins Championship winner, with race experience across Europe and the USA. At the Roden opener, he finished 20th overall after retiring in one of the qualifying heats.
The 2026 FIM Flat Track World Championship has been expanded from six to ten rounds this season. It spans eight countries across two continents, closing with two dates in Argentina on 24-25 October 2026.
Royal Enfield Sherpa FT Mk2 - Engine & Platform
The Royal Enfield Sherpa FT Mk2 is built around the 452cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled engine that also powers the Himalayan 450 and Guerrilla 450. Road-spec output for the engine stands at 39.47 bhp and 40 Nm.

Royal Enfield hasn't disclosed race-tune figures for the Mk2. The motor is reportedly retuned to suit the new exhaust and flat track demands.
Royal Enfield Sherpa FT Mk2 - What's New Over the Mk1
The Royal Enfield Sherpa FT Mk2 switches to alloy wheels from the wire-spoke units on the FT450 Mk1. Its fuel tank is purpose-built and smaller, replacing the stock Guerrilla 450 unit carried over on the predecessor. A new exhaust and revised paintwork complete the visual changes.
Royal Enfield has put the Sherpa FT Mk2 on a weight reduction program. The headlight and front assembly are deleted, along with the ABS unit and entire front disc brake assembly. The bodywork and swingarm appear to use carbon fibre, though Royal Enfield hasn't officially confirmed this.
Royal Enfield Sherpa FT Mk2 - Production Prospects
A road-going Sherpa FT Mk2 hasn't been confirmed. Royal Enfield is separately developing a Guerrilla 450-based scrambler (Scram 450), internally codenamed K2K, expected in 2027. A production flat tracker in this space would compete directly with the Triumph Tracker 400.
