Royal Enfield Himalayan 440 Launched At Rs 2.29 Lakh - Return Of The OG

Royal Enfield has launched the new Himalayan 440 at the inaugural Himalayan Basecamp in Ladakh, marking a decade since the original Himalayan arrived. The adventure motorcycle is priced from Rs 2,29,000 (ex-showroom), with bookings open across dealerships and on the firm's website from today (September 4, 2026).

The Royal Enfield Himalayan 440 keeps the OG 411's familiar design and ergonomic rider triangle while gaining an upgraded frame and a new engine. Royal Enfield says the motorcycle sticks to the same core philosophy of function over frills that defined the original.

Royal Enfield Himalayan 440 - Powertrain & Mechanical Bits

Power for the Royal Enfield Himalayan 440 comes from a new 443cc single-cylinder, long-stroke engine that produces 25.4 bhp at 6,250 rpm and 34 Nm at 4,000 rpm. Royal Enfield says the motor brings improved NVH performance over the outgoing unit.

The engine is paired with a six-speed gearbox with revised ratios, replacing the previous five-speed unit. The added sixth gear is aimed at easier low-speed riding and more relaxed highway cruising for long-distance touring.

The Himalayan 440 uses a half-duplex split-cradle frame with 41mm telescopic front forks offering 200mm of travel, and a linkage-type rear monoshock with 180mm of travel. It rides on a 21-inch front and 17-inch rear spoked wheel set-up.

Ground clearance stands at 220mm, and Royal Enfield says the low centre of gravity helps the motorcycle handle varied terrain, from tarmac to rocks, slush and snow. Braking duties are handled by a 300mm front disc with a two-piston floating caliper and larger pistons, paired with a 240mm rear disc. Dual-channel ABS is switchable for added control off-road.

Seat height is set at 800mm, paired with an upright riding position for manoeuvrability and comfort. The 15-litre fuel tank and enhanced top-box capacity are aimed at supporting longer, luggage-heavy journeys.

Equipment includes a new LED headlamp, a digital-analogue instrument cluster, Tripper turn-by-turn navigation, and USB Type-C charging. The Himalayan 440 is offered in three colour options: Sela Black, Mustang Brown, and Nelong White. Initial units also carry a ten-year anniversary badge on the fuel tank to mark the model's milestone.

Royal Enfield's accessory range for the Himalayan 440 includes hard panniers, top boxes, touring seats, adventure handguards, engine guards and sliders, along with hand guards and tapered mirrors for further personalisation.

The Royal Enfield Himalayan 440 is backed by a 7-year extended warranty and roadside assistance package. This adds four years or 40,000 km, whichever comes first, over the standard warranty of 3 years or 30,000 km.

The Himalayan family, spanning the original Himalayan and its successor, the Himalayan 450 launched in 2023, has sold over 320,000 units globally to date.
