PM E-Drive Subsidy Extended Till July 2026 – Big Relief for EV Buyers!

The popular PM E-Drive scheme has been extended until July 31, 2026. This is good news for new EV buyers, who will benefit from this subsidy scheme, which has a total fund support of ₹1,772 crore. The scheme was originally set to end by the end of this month.

PM E-Drive EV Subsidy Scheme Extended

The Prime Minister Electric Drive Revolution in Innovative Vehicle Enhancement (PM E-DRIVE) scheme benefits electric two-wheeler customers by reducing the upfront cost by ₹5,000. The deadline for the electric two-wheeler subsidy scheme has been extended.

The subsidy programme was launched to boost EV sales and adoption in India. Under this scheme, manufacturers have achieved significant success, as the electric two-wheeler segment has grown rapidly in recent times.

Not only EV two-wheelers, but this scheme also supports e-rickshaws and e-carts. However, the subsidy for electric three-wheelers has been discontinued since the target has already been achieved, and no further support is required.

Back in August, the scheme was extended overall until March 31, 2028. However, the validity for electric two-wheelers was only until March 31, 2026. A total payout of ₹10,900 crore has already been allocated under this fund-limited scheme.

This scheme offers a subsidy of up to ₹5,000, calculated at ₹2,500 per kWh, which was previously capped at ₹10,000. It also includes funding for mass transportation, such as electric buses and public mobility projects. Additionally, funds have been allocated for public charging infrastructure, vehicle testing facilities, administrative needs, and other related purposes.

The electric two-wheeler segment remains the biggest beneficiary of this scheme. Manufacturers such as TVS, Bajaj, Ather, and Hero are leading this category, with a majority of their sales coming from urban centres.

Now, EV adoption is gradually expanding into rural areas as infrastructure improves. Recently, there has been a strong demand for EVs in India, especially due to rising fuel prices and global factors such as the Middle East crisis. This also presents a strong opportunity for manufacturers, as more customers are considering EVs as an alternative to ICE-powered vehicles.
