Ola Electric S1Z Launched At Rs 79,999 With In-House LFP Battery & 301km Range
Ola Electric has launched the S1Z electric scooter at an introductory price of Rs 79,999, marking the first product to run on battery cells the company has developed and manufactured entirely in India. The scooter is offered in two variants, both priced ex-showroom, aimed squarely at the high-volume, price-sensitive segment of India's two-wheeler market.
The base S1Z carries a 3.1kWh battery pack with a claimed range of 179km under Indian Drive Cycle (IDC) conditions. The S1Z Plus steps up to a 5.1kWh pack rated for up to 301km IDC range, and both variants share a 4kW peak motor and a 70kmph top speed.

The cells powering the S1Z are part of Ola's Bharat Cell platform, a 46-series lithium iron phosphate (LFP) chemistry developed at the company's Battery Innovation Centre in Bengaluru and produced at its Gigafactory in Tamil Nadu. Ola says the cells cover 426 patents and are engineered to operate across a temperature range of -30°C to +70°C, with a claimed usable life beyond 15 years.
LFP chemistry offers greater thermal stability and a longer cycle life than the nickel-manganese-cobalt (NMC) cells used in most Indian electric two-wheelers. It is also considered less prone to thermal runaway, a factor that has drawn scrutiny following fire incidents involving electric two-wheelers in India in recent years.
Ola S1Z Price, Variants and Range
| Variant | Price (ex-showroom) | Battery | IDC Range | Peak Motor | Top Speed | Deliveries From |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| S1Z | Rs 79,999 | 3.1kWh | 179km | 4kW | 70kmph | December 2026 |
| S1Z Plus | Rs 99,999 | 5.1kWh | 301km | 4kW | 70kmph | March 2027 |
Battery cost typically accounts for 35 to 45 percent of an electric vehicle's total price. By developing and producing cells in-house instead of sourcing them externally, predominantly from Chinese suppliers, Ola is attempting to lower that cost and pass the savings on to entry-level buyers, a segment historically served by petrol scooters or electric models running lead-acid or imported lithium-ion cells.
Ola S1Z Features and Colour Options
Both variants run on Ola's MoveOS 5 software and include cruise control, advanced regenerative braking, reverse mode, GPS navigation and over-the-air software updates. A geo, time and mode fencing function lets owners restrict where, when and how the scooter can be used, a feature aimed at fleet operators and family buyers.
An Easy Park function allows low-speed manoeuvring in tight spaces through wrist-twist input, while ride statistics and energy usage data are accessible via the Ola Electric app. The S1Z rides on 12-inch wheels and comes in four colours: White, Anthracite, Sky Splash Blue and Matcha Green.
Ola Shifts to Dealer-Operated Retail With the S1Z
The S1Z will be the first Ola model sold through dealer-operated stores, a departure from the company's earlier reliance on a company-owned retail network. Ola has framed this as the start of a broader retail expansion aimed at increasing its reach in smaller cities and towns where company-run outlets have limited presence.
