BMW's latest adventure motorcycle, the F 450 GS, has now reached UK shores as the German manufacturer has begun offering test rides to customers. This India-made motorcycle was developed in collaboration with TVS Motor Company and is produced at TVS' manufacturing facility for global markets.

The F 450 GS is powered by a 420cc parallel-twin-cylinder engine that produces 48bhp of power and 43Nm of torque. The engine is paired with a 6-speed gearbox and a slipper-assist clutch system, offering a balance of performance, refinement, and touring capability.

The motorcycle has been designed to remain lightweight, tipping the scales at just 178kg. This low kerb weight is expected to enhance agility, handling, and off-road capability. The F 450 GS features a 19-inch front wheel and a 17-inch rear wheel, complemented by a long-travel KYB suspension setup designed to tackle a variety of terrains.

BMW has equipped the motorcycle with several premium technologies and rider aids. Key highlights include a 6.5-inch TFT display, smartphone connectivity, switchable traction control, ABS Pro, multiple riding modes, Engine Drag Torque Control (EDTC), Easy Ride Clutch (ERC), quickshifter, and dedicated off-road riding features.

The motorcycle is offered in four variants: Basic, Exclusive, Sport, and the range-topping GS Trophy edition. The GS Trophy variant receives additional off-road-focused equipment such as a sports suspension setup, aluminium sump guard, taller windscreen, knuckle guards, and cross-spoke wheels.

The UK and Indian motorcycle markets share several similarities, particularly in the growing demand for premium mid-capacity motorcycles. BMW is positioning the F 450 GS to capitalise on this demand and strengthen its presence in the adventure touring segment.

The adventure motorcycle category has witnessed significant growth in India, especially following the success of the Royal Enfield Himalayan 450. The BMW F 450 GS is already available in India at a starting price of Rs 4.70 lakh (ex-showroom) and competes in the premium mid-size adventure motorcycle segment.
