Honda Air Blade 160 Patented in India: India’s Next Big Performance Scooter

Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India has filed a design patent for a new scooter in India, and it is widely expected to be the Honda Air Blade. If launched, the Air Blade would mark Honda's entry into the premium sporty scooter segment, where it would compete with models such as the Suzuki Burgman Street, Yamaha Aerox 155 and Hero Xoom 160.

Honda currently dominates India's scooter market with the hugely successful Honda Activa range, which is offered in both 110cc and 125cc versions. The company also has a strong two-wheeler portfolio that includes popular motorcycles such as the Honda Shine and Honda Unicorn, along with sporty scooters like the Honda Dio. However, Honda does not currently offer a true maxi-style or performance-oriented scooter in the Indian market.

The Honda Air Blade is one of the brand's most popular premium scooters internationally and is sold in countries such as Vietnam, Thailand and Indonesia. It is available in both 125cc and 160cc versions, but the more powerful 160cc variant is the most likely candidate for India.

In terms of design, the Air Blade features sharp and aggressive bodywork with a full LED lighting package, including LED headlamps, DRLs, indicators and taillamps. Other highlights include stepped seating, a sturdy rear grab rail, a 23.2-litre under-seat storage compartment and a 4.4-litre fuel tank. Honda claims fuel efficiency of up to 44.8 km/l in international markets.

The scooter is equipped with telescopic front forks, twin rear shock absorbers, front disc brakes, rear drum brakes, single-channel ABS and 14-inch wheels. These components are designed to offer a balance of sporty handling and everyday practicality.

Powering the 160cc version is a liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine that produces around 15 hp and 14.8 Nm of torque. One of the Air Blade's biggest advantages is its lightweight construction, with a kerb weight of approximately 113 kg. This makes it significantly lighter than the Hero Xoom 160 (142 kg) and even lighter than the Yamaha Aerox 155 (126 kg).

If Honda introduces the Air Blade 160 in India, it could become the most aggressive and performance-focused scooter in the company's domestic lineup, offering enthusiasts a compelling alternative in the growing premium scooter segment.
