Honda ADV 160 Likely To Launch Today - What To Expect

Japanese two-wheeler manufacturer Honda is scheduled to launch a new scooter in India today. The Honda ADV 160 maxi-scooter is the likely vehicle that will launch today, as Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India recently patented its design in the country.

Honda currently sells commuter-focused scooters like the Activa and the Dio in India, with nothing to rival premium maxi-scooters. Today's launch of the Honda ADV 160 will help the Japanese marque push into a segment currently featuring the Yamaha Aerox 155, Hero Xoom 160 and Aprilia SR 175.

Honda ADV 160: Engine & Specifications

The international-spec Honda ADV 160 is powered by a 157cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine producing 16bhp at 8,500rpm and 14.7Nm of torque at 6,500rpm. Power is sent to the the rear wheel via a CVT automatic gearbox. If Honda brings the Honda ADV 160 to India, expect a similar state of tune, though the engine could be recalibrated for E20 ethanol-blended fuel compliance.

The Honda AV 160 features a staggered alloy wheel setup with a 14-inch front and 13-inch rear. Suspension duties are handled by a 31mm telescopic fork with 129mm of travel and twin Showa shock absorbers at the rear that offer 100mm of travel.

Braking on the Honda ADV 160 is handled by a 240mm front disc and a 130mm rear drum, backed by single-channel ABS. The ADV 160 features 165mm of ground clearance and an 8.1-litre fuel tank, and a seat height of 780mm.

The ADV 160 tips the scales at 133kg, making it 7kg heavier than the Yamaha Aerox 155 but 9kg lighter than the Hero Xoom 160. That extra weight compared to Aerox is thanks to the larger fuel tank.

Design-wise, the ADV 160 sports Honda's adventure-inspired styling, with a sharp front apron, tall windscreen, muscular body panels and a non-step-through layout built around a central spine chassis.

The ADV 160 also sports features like a digital instrument console, keyless ignition, idle start-stop technology and all-LED lighting. It also gets an adjustable windscreen, and the US-spec model uses a two-position version that would be a segment first if it reaches India. The ADV 160 packs 27 litres of space under the seat, along with a smaller 2-litre cubby on the front apron that also houses a USB charger.

If the ADV 160 is the vehicle the Japanese marque does launch today, we expect Honda to price its new maxi scooter between Rs 1.30 lakh and Rs 1.60 lakh, ex-showroom.
