Hero Xpulse 421 Spotted Testing: Hero's New Adventure Bike Takes On Himalayan 450

Hero MotoCorp is testing the upcoming Xpulse 421 adventure motorcycle, and the latest test mule has now been spotted in what appears to be a near-production form. Although the motorcycle was heavily camouflaged, several design elements indicate that it is almost ready for its global debut.

Hero's Xpulse range has established itself as one of the most popular entry-level adventure motorcycle line-ups in India, offering impressive off-road capability at an accessible price. The company is now looking to strengthen its position in the middleweight ADV segment with the upcoming Xpulse 421.

Hero MotoCorp has also gained valuable experience by competing in the Dakar Rally, and the expertise acquired from one of the world's toughest off-road competitions is expected to influence the development of the new Xpulse 421.

The test motorcycle remained heavily camouflaged, but several key components were clearly visible. It appears to feature a tall windscreen, a large fuel tank, long-travel suspension at both ends, a high-mounted tail section, an upswept exhaust, and a tall upright riding stance with generous ground clearance. These elements suggest that the Xpulse 421 is being developed as a true adventure touring motorcycle capable of handling both highways and demanding off-road trails.

Expected Engine And Performance

Powering the Xpulse 421 is expected to be an all-new 420cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine paired with a six-speed gearbox and an assist-and-slipper clutch. The motorcycle is expected to compete directly with the Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 and KTM 390 Adventure.

While Hero MotoCorp has not revealed official performance figures, the new engine is expected to deliver competitive power and torque outputs, putting it on par with its rivals. The motorcycle is also likely to draw styling inspiration from Hero's Dakar Rally machines and could be built around a steel trellis frame to deliver a balanced combination of agility, stability, and off-road capability.

Hero could equip the Xpulse 421 with several premium features, including cruise control, a TFT instrument cluster, ride-by-wire throttle, dual-channel ABS, a bi-directional quickshifter, traction control, multiple riding modes, and smartphone connectivity.

Expected Launch

With the Xpulse 421, Hero MotoCorp aims to establish itself as a stronger player in the global adventure motorcycle segment by offering a product that combines modern technology, capable performance, and competitive pricing. The motorcycle is expected to make its global debut at EICMA 2026, with its India launch likely to take place in early 2027.
