Hero Motocorp Developing New Radar-Based ARAS Safety Technology

Hero MotoCorp has partnered with US-based technology company Valeo to co-develop ARAS (Advanced Rider Assistance System) technology. This is a safety technology similar to ADAS in cars and could be integrated into Hero MotoCorp's ICE vehicles and Vida electric scooters in the near future. This technology operates based on radar technology and camera systems.

Valeo is a pioneer in automotive technology and has now partnered with India's largest two-wheeler manufacturer, Hero MotoCorp, to develop this advanced safety technology for two-wheelers. The system will be offered across both entry-level and premium models, including Vida EV scooters.

The Advanced Rider Assistance System has been developed to enable safer, smarter, and more sustainable mobility. This technology uses a combination of radar and multiple cameras to activate intelligent safety features on the vehicle.

India records one of the highest numbers of road accidents each year, with many involving two-wheeler riders. With the introduction of ARAS technology, accidents could be significantly reduced, overall riding safety could improve, and India could set new global benchmarks for two-wheeler safety.

The system acts as a co-pilot for riders by creating a 360-degree safety bubble around the vehicle, anticipating potential crashes and accidents as long as it is in operation. This system is designed to operate efficiently in heavy urban traffic, real-time road conditions, and high-risk zones. The system alerts riders, helping ensure a safer riding experience.

Key features include Forward Collision Warning, Distance Warning, Lane Change Assist, Blind Spot Detection, and Rear Collision Warning. High-end cameras enable the system to detect pedestrians, lanes, traffic, and road signs, even in low-light conditions.

The Advanced Rider Assistance System was showcased at the CES 2026. One of the biggest advantages of this technology is that it can be integrated into both ICE and electric two-wheelers.

Valeo Chief Marc Vrecko said, "We are truly excited to partner with Hero MotoCorp to deliver solutions that will significantly enhance rider safety and create a more secure riding experience for millions of people. This collaboration is a key step in our strategy to bring advanced technology to the rapidly growing mobility market in India and globally."

Hero MotoCorp's Chief Operations Officer for Plant Operations stated, "At Hero MotoCorp, we are redefining the future of mobility by bringing advanced technology to our products. Our partnership with Valeo marks a significant stride in making mobility smarter, safer, and more sustainable with next-generation advanced rider assistance systems. Together, we aim to make two-wheeler safety accessible to everyone and set new global standards for innovation and protection."

The ARAS technology is expected to be introduced first in Hero MotoCorp's premium models, including the Vida EV scooters, Xpulse adventure motorcycle series, Xtreme series, and the Xoom 160 performance scooter.
