Hero MotoCorp’s First Electric Motorcycle Is Finally Coming – Project VXZ Patented In India

India's largest two-wheeler manufacturer, Hero MotoCorp, has patented its first-ever electric motorcycle in India. Named 'Project Vida VXZ', the model was earlier showcased at the EICMA 2025. With this patent, the EV bike is now moving closer to mass production. Hero is expected to introduce the electric bike by the end of 2026 or early 2027.

Hero Motocorp's First Electric Bike Patented

The Hero MotoCorp Project Vida VXZ will mark the brand's entry into the electric motorcycle segment in India. The bike is being developed in collaboration with Zero Motorcycles and will be based on a new, dedicated EV platform designed specifically for Hero.

Electric Motorcycle

The Project Vida VXZ was unveiled at EICMA 2025 and has been designed for the Indian road conditions. It is a full-naked electric motorcycle featuring a sharp and muscular design. Some of its highlights include a projector LED headlamp, distinctive LED DRLs, LED turn indicators, and a TFT instrument cluster offering smartphone connectivity and multiple riding modes.

The electric bike also gets USD front forks and a rear monoshock, giving it a sporty stance. Other notable features include a belt drive system, which is quieter and more efficient than a traditional chain drive, split seats, petal disc brakes at both ends for improved braking and heat dissipation, and 17-inch alloy wheels with tubeless tyres.

Electric Motorcycle

Hero's upcoming electric motorcycle is expected to feature a centrally mounted battery pack, expected to deliver a maximum range of up to 275 km. The Vida VXZ could be sold as a strong electric alternative to 150cc ICE motorcycles, especially for city usage. Performance and power delivery are likely to be tuned for daily urban commuting.

The electric two-wheeler market in India is expanding rapidly and is currently dominated by electric scooters. However, the electric motorcycle segment remains largely unexplored, with only a handful of players, such as Ola Electric, Oben Electric, Revolt Motors, and Ultraviolette Automotive, currently active in the segment.

A traditional manufacturer like Hero MotoCorp entering the segment could finally gain more attention, especially if the motorcycle offers practical features and aggressive pricing. Hero is already dominating the ICE commuter segment; this electric bike could become a crucial testing ground for the brand's long-term electric ambitions.
