Ducati Monster V2 Launched At Rs 13.99 Lakh - Gets New 890cc Engine

Italian motorcycle manufacturer Ducati has launched the Monster and Monster+ V2 at a starting price of Rs 13.99 lakh (ex-showroom). The new Ducati Monster V2 motorcycle now uses a new 890cc engine and costs Rs 15,000 more than the outgoing model. The Monster V2 is positioned to rival motorcycles like the Triumph Street Triple RS, and is open for booking on Ducati India's website.

Both the Monster and Monster are offered in Ducati Red, Iceberg White and Sport Livery colours. The Ducati Monster costs Rs 13.99 lakh in Ducati Red and Rs 14.23 lakh in the other two shades, while the Monster+ adds a headlight cowl and passenger seat cover, priced from Rs 14.34 lakh to Rs 14.45 lakh (all prices are ex-showroom).

The Ducati Monster V2 is powered by a new 890cc V-twin engine mounted in a monocoque chassis that replaces the previous aluminium frame. The fuel tank gets a more muscular design in keeping with the Monster's styling, though its 14-litre capacity is unchanged.

Despite the smaller capacity, the new engine produces the same 111hp as the outgoing 937cc unit, now delivered at 9,000rpm, 250rpm earlier than before. Torque drops by 2Nm to 91.1Nm, with the peak arriving at 7,250rpm instead of 6,500rpm, and 80 percent of it available between 4,000rpm and 9,000rpm.

Ducati credits the new Intake Variable Timing (IVT) system for a 5kg weight reduction and a more relaxed maintenance schedule. Valve clearance checks are now due only at 45,000km, and Ducati recommends a service every year or 15,000km, whichever comes first. The Ducati Monster V2 comes with a two-year, unlimited-mileage warranty.

Seat height on the standard Monster is 815mm, and the seat itself is narrower than before. Riders can opt for a 795mm accessory seat or a 775mm unit, the latter of which also requires a lower suspension kit.

Suspension duties on the new Ducati Monster V2 are handled by a Showa 43mm USD fork and a rear monoshock, while braking comes from Brembo, with a 320mm dual-disc setup up front and a 245mm disc at the rear. The Monster V2 rides on Pirelli Diablo Rosso IV tyres, sized 120/70R17 at the front and 180/55R17 at the rear.

The Standard electronics suite on the Monster V2 include ride and power modes, traction control, wheelie control, engine brake control and cornering ABS. The new Ducati Monster also gets a 5-inch TFT instrument cluster, full LED lighting, a bi-directional quickshifter, and dynamic, self-cancelling indicators. Optional extras include TPMS, cruise control, turn-by-turn navigation and heated grips.
