Ducati Formula 73 Unveiled As Limited Edition Tribute To 750 Super Sport Desmo - Limited To 873 Units
Italian motorcycle manufacturer Ducati has unveiled the Formula 73, a limited-edition motorcycle developed as a tribute to the historic 750 Super Sport Desmo. Production of the Ducati Formula 73 is capped at 873 units worldwide.
The Ducati Formula 73 draws direct inspiration from the 750 Super Sport Desmo, which marked a key milestone for Ducati as the first road-going motorcycle from the brand to feature desmodromic valve timing. The 750 Super Sport Desmo helped establish Ducati's performance identity and became one of the company's most recognisable production models.
The 750 Super Sport Desmo itself was derived from the 750 Imola Desmo, the competition motorcycle that secured victory at the 1972 200 Miglia di Imola. Riders Paul Smart and Bruno Spaggiari piloted the race bike to Ducati's first major international success in a production-derived category.
Design cues on the Ducati Formula 73 reference that era. The limited-run motorcycle receives a silver and aqua green paint scheme, paired with a vertical gold stripe on the fuel tank. The stripe replicates the unpainted section seen on the original Imola race bike, which teams used to monitor fuel levels during endurance events.
Other highlights of the Ducati Formula 73 include clip-on handlebars, bar-end mirrors and a half fairing, giving the bike a café-racer profile. These elements differentiate it visually from Ducati's modern lineup while maintaining retro proportions and a compact stance.
Powering the Formula 73 is an 803cc Desmodue L-twin engine. This is the same air-cooled unit used across several models in Ducati's Scrambler family and it produces 73hp and 65.2Nm of peak torque.
Ducati has equipped the limited-edition motorcycle with a Termignoni exhaust system that is designed to complement the engine's output and maintain the bike's period-inspired aesthetic while ensuring the retro-inspired Formula 73 can keep up with its modern siblings.
Cycle parts on the Ducati Formula 73 include 17-inch wheels fitted with Pirelli Diablo Rosso IV tyres, along with billet aluminium brake and clutch levers, billet foot pegs and a Rizoma fuel cap. The Ducati Formula 73 includes Electronic rider aids like DTC traction control, cornering ABS, Ducati Quick Shift and two riding modes.
Each unit is supplied with a certificate of authenticity, along with a curated collection of archival photographs and design sketches from the Ducati Style Centre. Ducati has also created matching accessories, including a helmet developed in collaboration with Arai and a jacket finished in Formula 73 livery. These items complement the limited-edition theme and are offered with the limited-run motorcycle.
