Ducati Formula 73 Launched In India At Rs 20 Lakh - Limited To 873 Units Worldwide

The Ducati Formula 73 has been launched in India at Rs 20 lakh (ex-showroom). The limited-edition cafe racer is capped at 873 units globally, and the entire Indian allocation is already booked.

The Ducati Formula 73 was first revealed globally earlier this year. It pays homage to the 1973 750 Super Sport Desmo, the first Ducati road bike with a desmodromic valve timing system.

Ducati Formula 73 Engine, Chassis and Electronics

The Ducati Formula 73's 803cc Desmodue L-twin makes 73hp at 8,250rpm and 65.2Nm at 7,000rpm. It is air-cooled, and a Termignoni exhaust developed specifically for this model is fitted.

The Ducati Formula 73 is based on the Scrambler's underpinnings, with a steel trellis frame, a 41mm KYB USD fork and a preload-adjustable KYB monoshock. It rides on 17-inch spoked wheels wrapped in Pirelli Diablo Rosso IV tyres. The bike weighs 183kg wet, without fuel.

Cornering ABS, traction control, ride-by-wire, a quickshifter and two riding modes make up the electronics package of the Formula 73. A 4.3-inch TFT display and full-LED lighting are standard, while heated grips and turn-by-turn navigation are offered as accessories.

Ducati Formula 73 - Design, Heritage and Exclusivity

The 750 Super Sport Desmo was a replica of the 750 Imola Desmo. Paul Smart and Bruno Spaggiari won the 1972 200 Miglia di Imola with that bike, the first European competition for production-derived motorcycles The Imola Desmo went on to log more than 400 victories for Ducati across multiple competitions.

The Formula 73 wears a silver and aqua-green livery based on the original Super Sport. A vertical gold stripe runs down the tank, referencing the unpainted strip on the Imola Desmo that lets the team check the fuel level without a gauge.

Clip-on handlebars, bar-end mirrors, a short fairing with an integrated windshield and LED headlight, and a tapered tail complete the cafe racer look. The levers and footpegs are billet aluminium units, and the fuel cap is a Rizoma piece.

Every Ducati Formula 73 carries a serial number on the steering plate and comes with a certificate of authenticity. A box containing period images and sketches from the Ducati Style Centre is also included.
