Classic Royal Enfield Himalayan Returning? New 440cc Model Likely By Late 2026

Royal Enfield is reportedly planning to introduce the Himalayan 440, bringing back the old-school design inspired by the original Himalayan 411. This fan-favourite styling is expected to make a comeback, with the motorcycle likely to arrive by late 2026.

Classic Royal Enfield Himalayan Returning?

According to a report by Autocar India, the classic Himalayan is set to return with a more powerful 440cc engine, shared with the Scram 440. If this turns out to be true, it will excite enthusiasts who still admire the rugged and aggressive look of the original 411 model.

Codenamed D4G, the upcoming Himalayan is expected to feature a 440cc engine and become a direct successor to the original Himalayan 411. The earlier model played a key role in popularising the mid-size adventure segment in India, despite being tall, relatively heavy, and highly priced.

While the new Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 is more refined and rider-focused, the original Himalayan 411 continues to enjoy a loyal fan base due to its distinctive design and strong road presence. It appears that Royal Enfield has recognised this demand and is planning to revive the classic design with improved performance.

Himalayan 440 Expectations

The upcoming model is expected to borrow several features from the Royal Enfield Scram 440. These may include LED headlamps, dual-channel switchable ABS, dual-purpose tyres, USB charging, and the Tripper navigation system powered by Google.

Engine and gearbox

Powering the motorcycle will likely be the same 443cc air/oil-cooled engine that produces 25.4 bhp and 34 Nm of torque, paired with a 6-speed gearbox. This engine setup could be tuned to offer more power and torque output compared to the original 411 engine which significantly translates into better riding capability.

Hardware and components

In terms of hardware, it is expected to use a half-duplex split cradle frame, along with 41mm telescopic front forks and a rear monoshock with longer suspension travel. Higher ground clearance and more powerful disc brakes are also expected to be part of the package.

Drive Spark's View

The Indian retro motorcycle segment has long been dominated by Royal Enfield. Bringing back the original Himalayan design is likely to further strengthen the brand's presence in this category.

The company already offers a wide range of motorcycles across multiple engine platforms, including 350cc, 440cc, 450cc, and 650cc. The upcoming Himalayan 440 is expected to be priced at around ₹2.70 lakh (ex-showroom), making it an attractive option for buyers looking for a rugged yet accessible adventure motorcycle.
