Brembo, Ningbo SAFE Brakes Systems Sign JV For Motorcycle ABS Production In India
Brembo and Ningbo SAFE Brakes Systems have signed a joint venture agreement to produce motorcycle ABS systems in India. The new entity, BRSF Active Safety Solutions, will handle local assembly and supply of ABS units for the Indian two-wheeler market.
Brembo holds a 60 percent majority stake in the venture, while Ningbo SAFE Brakes Systems, the market leader in China's motorcycle ABS segment, brings its manufacturing experience to the partnership. Operations will run out of Chakan, Pune, right beside Brembo India's existing plant.

Manufacturing Setup And Scale
The new facility will house automated assembly lines and is expected to employ around 50 people initially. Brembo and Ningbo SAFE Brakes Systems plan a progressive ramp-up tied to production volumes and supply chain localisation over time.
The plant sits in Chakan, one of India's key automotive and motorcycle manufacturing hubs. Closing of the joint venture remains subject to customary regulatory approvals before operations can begin at the site.
Product Range And Market Positioning
BRSF Active Safety Solutions will offer both single-channel and dual-channel ABS solutions for motorcycles. The single-channel ABS setup will suit lower-cost, mass-market motorcycles, while the dual-channel systems will target larger and premium machines with higher performance demands.
Andrea Paganessi, Motorcycle GBU Chief Operating Officer of Brembo, said the joint venture reflects the company's commitment to supporting evolving motorcycle safety standards in India. Hill Shan, Founder of Ningbo SAFE Brakes Systems, added that the partnership aims to build a manufacturing platform focused on quality and reliability for Indian market needs.
India's Two-Wheeler Safety Landscape
India remains the world's largest two-wheeler market, with up to 25 million registered vehicles. The country has seen solid expansion rates alongside growing attention to safety technology across price segments.
Commuter motorcycles typically use simpler braking hardware, while premium and performance models have shifted toward better calipers, discs and dual-channel ABS. The joint venture also strengthens foundation brake solutions under Brembo's BYBRE brand, expanding supply to Original Equipment customers in India. More advanced braking technologies could be added to the venture in future as market requirements evolve.
