BMW F 450 R Teased Ahead Of October 1 Reveal

BMW Motorrad has teased its next roadster motorcycle, expected to be called the BMW F 450 R, ahead of a global reveal on October 1, 2026. The bike is built on the same platform as the F 450 GS and is tipped to become BMW's most affordable naked motorcycle for the Indian market.

BMW's G 310 R and G 310 GS have both been discontinued, leaving only the track-focused G 310 RR, a joint project with TVS, in the sub-500cc lineup below the new roadster. The teaser image shows a USD front fork and a muscular fuel tank with sharp extensions, along with a noticeably shorter rake angle than the F 450 GS.

BMW F 450 R Engine and Chassis

The BMW F 450 R is expected to share its 420cc parallel-twin engine with the F 450 GS, which makes 48hp and 43Nm of torque. A slightly sharper state of tune is likely on the roadster to suit its street-focused character rather than the GS's adventure-touring intent.

The chassis is also expected to carry over from the F 450 GS, though with a more road-biased suspension setup and reduced travel. The GS runs a 43mm USD fork with 180mm of travel and a segment-first Easy Ride Clutch, and it tips the scales at 178kg. Whether the roadster gets the same ERC tech, and whether BMW extends the GS Trophy variant's dual-end suspension adjustability to the new bike, remains unconfirmed.

BMW F 450 R: Expected Price and Rivals

The BMW F 450 R is expected to be priced at around Rs 4.50 lakh (ex-showroom) once launched, undercutting the F 450 GS, which was recently hiked to start at Rs 4.95 lakh. Its likely rival, the Aprilia Tuono 457 Special Edition, is priced at Rs 3.99 lakh, while the single-cylinder KTM 390 Duke R comes in at Rs 3.45 lakh.

BMW has confirmed the reveal for October 1, 2026, at 5:30pm IST, though an India launch timeline has not yet been announced.
