BMW F 450 GS - 5 Big Advantages Over Himalayan 450
Both these models have a similar engine capacity; however, there is a significant difference in terms of their setup, power delivery, build quality, and overall usability. Let us take a closer look at the advantages of the BMW F 450 GS over the Royal Enfield Himalayan 450.
1. Twin Cylinder Setup
The F 450 GS features a 420cc liquid-cooled parallel twin-cylinder engine that produces 47.5 PS of power and 43 Nm of torque. In comparison, the Himalayan 450 gets a single-cylinder engine with an output of 40 PS and 40 Nm of torque.

The parallel twin-cylinder setup delivers higher performance and superior refinement compared to the single-cylinder unit in the Himalayan. It also makes the BMW a more capable motorcycle for highway riding, offering effortless and strain-free performance over long distances.
2. Lighter and Superior
The BMW is built on a lightweight chassis and weighs just 178 kg to the Himalayan 450s 196 kg. This weight advantage is a major benefit for an adventure motorcycle. It translates into better ride quality in city conditions as well as improved handling on off-road trails. The lower weight also contributes to stronger acceleration. The superior power-to-weight ratio gives the F 450 GS a clear performance edge over its rival.

3. More Customizable Machine
The Himalayan 450 is comparatively less customizable than the BMW. The F 450 GS offers adjustable levers, multiple seat height options, and adjustable foot controls. Additionally, it comes with optional equipment such as enduro footrests, an adjustable windscreen, luggage carriers, and adjustable suspension components. These additions enhance both comfort and versatility, making the motorcycle more adaptable to different riding conditions.
4. Premium Technology and Safety
BMW also offers a wide range of advanced technologies, including Shift Assistant Pro and Easy Ride Clutch (ERC), which improves low-speed rideability in traffic conditions. Other features include a 6.5-inch TFT display with connectivity, LED headlights with X-shaped DRLs, multiple riding modes (Rain, Road, Enduro, Enduro Pro), BMW Motorrad Traction Control, ABS Pro, 43 mm KYB USD forks, a steel tube frame, 310/240 mm disc brakes, and aluminium cast wheels.

5. Aggressive Pricing
The BMW F 450 GS starts at ₹4.70 lakh (ex-showroom), which is quite aggressive considering BMW's position as a premium motorcycle brand. The GS Exclusive trim is priced at ₹4.90 lakh (ex-showroom), while the top-of-the-line GS Trophy variant starts at ₹5.30 lakh (ex-showroom).
This pricing, combined with its performance, lighter weight, and advanced technology, makes the BMW F 450 GS a strong and well-rounded contender in the mid-size adventure motorcycle segment.
