Bajaj Dominar 400 (350) Is Here – Top Changes & What’s New Explained

Bajaj Dominar 400 (350) - Top Changes & What's New Explained

The GST 2.0 regulations have pushed manufacturers like Bajaj, Triumph, and KTM to reduce engine sizes in order to avoid the highest GST slab of 40%. The latest addition to this shift is the Bajaj Dominar 350. Let's take a look at the key changes made to this touring motorcycle.

Displacement Change

Previously, the Dominar was powered by a 373cc single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine derived from KTM. While KTM updated its KTM 390 Duke to a 399cc engine, Bajaj chose not to update the Dominar 400 to maintain cost efficiency.

Now, due to GST implications, Bajaj has downsized the engine to 349.13cc. While the bore remains unchanged, the stroke length has been reduced, helping retain most of the performance characteristics.

Power Output Variation

Although the engine capacity has been reduced, the peak power has slightly increased. The new Dominar 350 produces 40 hp at 9,000 rpm. However, the shorter stroke has impacted torque delivery, which has dropped from 35 Nm to 33.2 Nm at 7,500 rpm.

High Price Reduction

The primary goal behind this downsizing is to avoid higher taxation and keep the motorcycle more affordable. Bajaj has took this as an advantage by pricing the Dominar 350 at ₹2.03 lakh (ex-showroom).

With the GST rate dropping from 40% to 18%, the new model is now up to ₹37,000 more affordable than the earlier 373cc version. This makes it more attractive compared to rivals in the segment.

Reduced Weight

Bajaj has also reduced the weight of the motorcycle by around 3 kg. One of the key concerns with the Dominar was its weight, and this reduction improves handling and rider feedback. The improved power-to-weight ratio also enhances low-speed rideability in city conditions.

What Hasn't Changed?

Many of the strengths of the Dominar 400 have been retained in the new model. It continues to offer solid build quality and premium components such as USD forks, a monoshock suspension, dual-channel ABS, and alloy wheels, maintaining its appeal as a capable touring motorcycle. The nameplate has also been retained, similar to how Triumph has positioned its 400cc lineup.
