Bajaj Chetak Electric Scooters In High Demand Amid Rising Fuel Prices
Bajaj Auto is planning to significantly increase the production of its popular Bajaj Chetak electric scooters in response to strong consumer demand and a growing order backlog. The electric scooter has already crossed the landmark of 1 lakh unit sales in India and currently commands an impressive market share of around 23 percent, making it one of the top-selling electric two-wheelers in the country.
Bajaj Chetak EV Demand Pushes Production Increase
Amid rising fuel prices, electric scooters are witnessing a sharp increase in bookings, and consumer demand has reached new highs. The Bajaj Chetak, which is among the best-selling electric scooters in India, has seen overwhelming interest from buyers looking for a reliable and cost-effective alternative to conventional petrol-powered vehicles.

To meet this robust demand, Bajaj Auto is preparing to scale up production of the Chetak EV. In several cities, the waiting period for the scooter has extended to several months due to supply constraints and consistently high bookings. Expanding manufacturing capacity is therefore a crucial step to reduce waiting times and improve availability.
According to Bajaj Auto, the company is actively working to increase production capacity to better align supply with rising demand. The Chetak EV is currently averaging monthly sales of around 35,000 units, placing it just behind the TVS iQube in terms of sales performance in the Indian market.
The company has also expanded its electric scooter lineup with the introduction of the new and more accessible Bajaj Chetak C2501. This variant is aimed at younger buyers and offers a fresh design while retaining the Chetak's durable all-metal body construction and a wide range of modern technology features.

Chetak EV Highlights & Pricing
The Chetak EV range comes equipped with several advanced features and highlights, including a robust metal body, TECPAC connectivity suite, full LED lighting, music controls, IP67-certified water and dust resistance, front disc brakes, guide-me-home lights, integrated Google Maps navigation, a touchscreen display, 35-litre boot space and much more.
Bajaj currently offers the Chetak EV in three distinct series: C25, C30 and C35. These models are available with three battery configurations - 2.5 kWh, 3.0 kWh and 3.5 kWh - delivering a maximum claimed range of up to 153 km on a single charge.

The price of the Chetak C2501 starts at ₹91,504 (ex-showroom), while the C3001 is priced from ₹1.05 lakh (ex-showroom). The flagship C35 series starts at ₹1.02 lakh (ex-showroom). Key competitors of the Chetak EV include the TVS iQube, Ather Rizta and Ola S1.
Reasons for Rising EV Demand
Consumers across India are increasingly shifting towards green mobility as they seek to reduce fuel expenses amid continued economic challenges. Rising petrol prices have encouraged more buyers to adopt electric vehicles and lower their dependence on fossil fuels.
