Ather Konarc Launch Confirmed For August 29 - First Electric Scooter Based On EL Platform

Ather Energy has confirmed that its upcoming mass-market electric scooter will be called the Konarc. The new model will make its India debut on 29 August at the company's annual Ather Community Day, becoming the first production scooter based on Ather's all-new EL platform.

The Konarc represents an important expansion of Ather's product portfolio beyond the premium 450 range and the family-focused Rizta. The Konarc is expected to become Ather's most accessible electric scooter and target the high-volume commuter segment.

The Ather Konarc is the first scooter to be based on the firm's new EL platform. Ather's EL architecture has been developed as a scalable platform that can support multiple electric two-wheelers with different battery capacities, body styles and price points, which could mean that the Bengaluru firm could have a few tricks up its sleeve for its Community Day event this year.

Ather Konarc: Design Closely Follows EL01 Concept

Ather has already shared multiple teasers of the Konarc, which reveal that the upcoming scooter's design remains largely faithful to the EL01 concept showcased at Ather Community Day last year. The teasers for the Konarc show a scooter that features a handlebar-mounted headlamp, a full-width LED daytime running light and a more conventional family scooter silhouette than the sportier 450 series.

The teasers also indicate a long single-piece seat and a spacious floorboard aimed at improving everyday usability. The production Ather Konarc scooter is expected to use a 14-inch front wheel and a 12-inch rear wheel, paired with a front disc brake and a rear drum brake. A seven-inch TFT display with smartphone connectivity is also likely to be offered.

While Ather has not released technical specifications, the EL platform has been engineered to accommodate battery packs ranging from 2kWh to 5kWh, providing flexibility for future models built on the same architecture. Complete details, including battery options, performance figures, features, variants and pricing, will be announced when the Konarc is unveiled on 29 August during Ather Community Day.

We expect the new Ather Konarc to command a price between Rs 1 lakh and Rs 1.25 lakh, ex-showroom. We also expect Ather to offer the new Konarc with a Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) option to reduce the initial purchase cost.
