Upcoming Ather Konarc Electric Scooter To Get A Metal Body

Ather Energy CEO Tarun Mehta has confirmed the upcoming Ather Konarc electric scooter will feature a metal body, a first for the brand. Mehta shared the reveal in a video posted on X ahead of the scooter's August 29 launch at Ather Community Day.

The metal panels are expected to lend theAther Konarc a more premium appeal, similar to rivals like the Bajaj Chetak series, though the added material will likely increase kerb weight compared to Ather's existing plastic-bodied models.

Ather has used polymer body panels on every scooter it has sold so far, including the 450 series and the Rizta. The Konarc breaks from that approach, becoming the brand's first model to get all-metal bodywork.

For reference, the plastic-bodied Ather 450X weighs 108kg with the smaller 2.9kWh battery pack and 111kg with the larger pack. The metal-bodied Bajaj Chetak C3001, by comparison, tips the scales at around 125kg, mainly due to its body panels.

The Konarc's metal panels are expected to push its kerb weight closer to the Chetak's figures, a shift that would affect the scooter's performance and efficiency numbers once official specifications are released.

Ather Konarc: Expected Specifications & Features

The Ather Konarc will use a swingarm-mounted motor similar to the setup on the 450 series, tuned for smoother power delivery. Suspension duties are handled by a telescopic fork up front and a monoshock at the rear.

Braking comes from a 14-inch front wheel with a disc brake and a 12-inch rear wheel with a drum brake. The scooter is built on Ather's new EL platform, developed using over 26 lakh kilometres of field data to underpin multiple models across segments.

The Konarc also gets a TFT instrument console with Bluetooth connectivity, turn-by-turn navigation and call and SMS alerts. It runs Ather's AtherStack 7 software.

Ather Konarc: Expected Price And Rivals

The Ather Konarc is expected to be priced between Rs 1 lakh and Rs 1.25 lakh (ex-showroom), positioning it below the Rizta, which starts at Rs 1.21 lakh, and the 450 range, which starts at Rs 1.28 lakh.

Once launched, the Konarc will compete against the Bajaj Chetak C2501, the TVS iQube and the Vida VX2 in the mainstream electric scooter segment.
