Ather EL-Based Electric Scooters Expected This Festive Season

Ather Energy is preparing to launch a new range of affordable electric scooters based on its upcoming EL platform during the festive season this year. According to multiple reports, the Bengaluru-based EV manufacturer is simultaneously working to significantly increase its production capacity to manufacture these upcoming mass-market scooters.

Ather Energy New EL Platform Electric Scooters

The all-new EL platform is expected to underpin multiple future electric scooter models. Unlike the brand's existing premium-focused lineup, this architecture is being designed primarily for affordability and large-scale accessibility.

The new platform is likely to serve as the foundation for Ather's most budget-friendly scooters yet, targeting a wider audience across urban and semi-urban markets. At present, Ather manufactures its scooters at its Hosur facility in Tamil Nadu.

However, the company is also setting up a new manufacturing plant in Aurangabad, Maharashtra, to support future expansion plans. Reports suggest that the EL platform has been engineered with a strong focus on cost efficiency.

As a result, the upcoming scooters based on this architecture could be priced around the ₹1 lakh mark, making them far more accessible to mass buyers. This pricing strategy is particularly important because the majority of electric scooters sold in India currently fall within the ₹1 lakh to ₹1.25 lakh price bracket.

By entering this high-volume segment more aggressively, Ather could attract a much larger customer base and expand beyond its premium urban audience. The affordable EL platform will also help Ather compete more directly against established rivals such as TVS Motor Company, Bajaj Auto, Hero MotoCorp's Vida lineup, and Ola Electric.

Currently, Ather's portfolio includes the family-oriented Ather Rizta priced at ₹1.04 lakh, the sporty Ather 450X priced at ₹1.19 lakh, and the performance-focused Ather 450 Apex priced at ₹1.90 lakh (all prices ex-showroom).

Another major advantage of the EL platform is its flexibility. It is expected to support multiple body styles and scooter formats, ranging from practical daily commuters to larger family-focused offerings. The platform could also allow Ather to offer different battery pack options, varied wheel sizes, and simplified engineering solutions tailored for different customer needs.

Apart from expanding manufacturing capabilities, Ather Energy is also aggressively working on increasing its dealership and service network across India. The company aims to improve accessibility and after-sales support as it prepares for higher sales volumes and a broader customer reach with its future affordable EV lineup.
