Aprilia India Simplifies Scooter Lineup, SR 175 Becomes Sole Model

Piaggio India has discontinued three of Aprilia's scooters in the Indian market - the Aprilia SXR 125, Aprilia SXR 160 and Aprilia SR 160. With these models removed from the lineup, the Aprilia SR 175 is now the only scooter currently offered by the brand in India.

Aprilia Discontinues SR 160 and SXR Series

Aprilia has been present in India for several years and is known for its performance-oriented motorcycles and scooters. The brand has built a strong enthusiast following with products such as the SR series, SXR range, and premium motorcycles like the Aprilia RS 457, Aprilia Tuono 457 and Aprilia RS 660.

The decision to discontinue the SXR and SR 160 models appears to be part of Piaggio's strategy to simplify its portfolio and focus on more premium and performance-oriented products.

The market for premium maxi-scooters remains relatively small in India, while established brands such as TVS Motor Company, Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India and Yamaha Motor continue to dominate scooter sales. However, in urban areas and cities, Aprilia still has an ample space left in the scooter market.

Aprilia SR 175 Specs

The SR 175 now takes over as Aprilia's primary scooter offering in India. It is powered by a 174.7cc air-cooled single-cylinder engine that produces 12.9 bhp and 14.14 Nm of torque, paired with a CVT automatic transmission. The scooter is designed to deliver sporty performance while remaining practical for everyday city use. Prices start at Rs 1.21 lakh (ex-showroom).

Some of its key features include a TFT instrument cluster, full LED lighting, Bluetooth connectivity with call, music and navigation support, USB charging, spacious under-seat storage and all-terrain tyres.

Buyers can also opt for the MotoGP-inspired Aprilia SR 175 GP Replica, which is sold alongside the standard model. The discontinued SXR 125 competed with the Suzuki Burgman Street 125, while the SXR 160 was positioned against models like the Hero Xoom 160.
