Yamaha WR155 R Could Be Launched Soon In India: Everything You Need To Know

Yamaha India is gearing up to launch the much-anticipated WR155 R, its first dual-sport motorcycle for the Indian market. The bike has been spotted completely undisguised in Bengaluru, hinting at an imminent launch.

On November 11, 2025, Yamaha is set to reveal two new models for the Indian market. According to sources, these upcoming models are widely speculated to be the WR155 R and the retro-styled XSR155.

Yamaha WR155 R

The Yamaha WR155 R has earned a strong reputation in international markets such as Indonesia and Thailand for its versatility and ruggedness. Built to perform equally well on trails and city roads, it rides on a semi double-cradle frame and features a tall, adventure-oriented stance.

Its suspension setup includes long-travel telescopic forks at the front and a link-type monoshock at the rear, designed to absorb rough terrain with ease. The WR155 R rolls on a 21-inch front wheel and an 18-inch rear wheel, both wrapped in knobby dual-purpose tyres. A ground clearance of 245 mm and a seat height of 880 mm further underline its off-road credentials, making it a serious contender for adventure enthusiasts.

Powertrain

Powering the Yamaha WR155 R is the brand's 155cc, liquid-cooled, 4-valve engine with Variable Valve Actuation (VVA) - the same engine used in the R15, MT-15, and the upcoming XSR155. In its global specification, this motor produces 16.7PS at 10,000 rpm and 14.3 Nm of torque at 6,500 rpm, paired with a 6-speed gearbox.

Furthermore, the bike's light kerb weight of 134 kg is expected to contribute heavily to its nimble handling, and improved fuel efficiency.

Braking, Features, & Dimensions

The WR155 R is equipped with front and rear disc brakes, offering confident braking performance on all surfaces. The dual-purpose tyres further enhance grip, while the suspension is tuned for stability and comfort.

Yamaha has also included practical features such as a fully digital instrument cluster, electric start, and an 8.1-litre fuel tank, making it well-suited for moderate-distance touring. Dimensionally, it measures 2,145 mm in length, 840 mm in width, and 1,200 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 1,430 mm. The tall seat height may challenge shorter riders, but it adds to the bike's commanding presence and off-road ergonomics.

Expected Rivals & Pricing

Once launched, the Yamaha WR155 R will directly rival the Hero Xpulse 200 4V, India's current most affordable dual-sport motorcycle. It will also face competition from the Kawasaki KLX230, which recently saw a significant price cut and now starts at Rs 1.99 lakh (ex-showroom).

DriveSpark Thinks

If Yamaha manages to position the WR155 R competitively, it could become the go-to choice for riders seeking a lightweight yet capable off-roader. With the upcoming launch just around the corner, the WR155 R is set to open a new chapter for Yamaha in India's growing adventure and dual-sport motorcycle segment.
