Yamaha R3 & MT-03 Prices Slashed In India!

Motorcycle enthusiasts in India have a reason to celebrate, as the recent GST revision has made bikes below 350cc more affordable. The tax rate on this segment has been reduced from 28 percent to 18 percent, resulting in a noticeable price drop for several models. Among the biggest beneficiaries of this update are Yamaha's popular twin-cylinder offerings - the R3 and MT-03.

Price Drop & New Pricing

Since both the Yamaha R3 and MT-03 are powered by sub-350cc engines, they have benefited from a reduction of around Rs 20,000 in their ex-showroom prices. With this latest cut, the R3 is now priced at Rs 3.39 lakh, while its streetfighter sibling, the MT-03, costs Rs 3.30 lakh (both ex-showroom).

This marks the second price reduction for these models in 2025. Earlier in January, Yamaha had already slashed their prices by an impressive Rs 1.10 lakh, making them far more accessible compared to their original launch prices back in 2023.

Shared Platform & Performance

The Yamaha R3 and MT-03 share the same platform, chassis, and engine, but cater to different riding styles - the R3 being the fully-faired sports bike, and the MT-03 serving as its naked, street-focused counterpart. Both are powered by a 321cc, twin-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine known for its smooth performance and engaging nature.

With a well-balanced chassis, refined motor, and predictable handling, these bikes deliver a riding experience that stands out in their class. They have often been praised for their quality, reliability, and versatility, making them great options for both city use and spirited weekend rides.

Better Value & Market Position

Earlier, the high pricing of the R3 and MT-03 placed them well above their key rivals such as the Aprilia RS 457 and Tuono 457, making them less appealing despite their strong mechanical package. However, with the revised GST rate and the consequent drop in prices, both Yamahas now present far better value for money.

Their improved affordability should help Yamaha attract a larger pool of buyers, especially those looking for refined, high-quality, twin-cylinder motorcycles without breaching the 350cc tax slab. With this move, the R3 and MT-03 are finally positioned to compete effectively in India's growing premium motorcycle market.

DriveSpark Thinks

If you are in market for a sport bike with twin-cylinder engine, then the Yamaha R3 & Yamaha MT-03 motorcycles make a strong statement for themselves. These models delver the high revving thrill of a twin-cylinder motorcycle without the usual demerits such as higher maintenance costs (thanks to more localisation). Also, thanks to wide service network, servicing these motorcycles are better than its rivals.
