Yamaha EC-06: Top 5 Features Of This Urban Electric Scooter
Yamaha has launched a new commuter electric scooter, the EC-06, in collaboration with Bangalore-based River Indie EV. The Japanese auto manufacturer has invested around 40 million in River Indie. They share technology to develop electric scooters.
This EC-06 is the first EV to emerge from this collaboration, and Yamaha used River Indie's expertise and local manufacturing capabilities to build its own version. Here are the top 5 features of the EC-06.
Yamaha EC-06 Top 5 Features
1. 160 Km Range on a Single charge
Yamaha claims that the new EC-06 will have a maximum range of 160 Km per charge. The charging time is around 9 hours (approximately), which is much longer compared to other EV scooters in the same segment. But we expect Yamaha to provide fast chargers, as the Indie version comes with a 750W fast charger, which can charge from 0-80% in 5 hours.

2. Powerful Motor and battery
It has a 4.5 kW electric motor that delivers up to 8.98 hp. The battery is also a 4 kWh lithium-ion battery, which has enough juice to cover 160km of range. For daily use, the battery and the motor will deliver smooth performance and acceleration.
3. Sharper design and styling
The EC-06 design is very sharp and boxy with different bodywork. It was designed specifically for India, based on the horizontal design philosophy that makes it look clean and minimal. It also comes with LED headlights, tail lights, and indicators.
4. Well-Equipped Safety
For safety, it has a front telescopic suspension, twin coil springs at the rear, front& rear disc brakes, 14-inch alloy wheels, a combined braking system, and IP67 & IP65 water/ dust resistance for the motor and battery.

5. Modern connectivity
The electric scooter has all the modern connectivity features to provide a more connected experience to consumers. It comes with in-built telematics, SIM-based connectivity, a Coloured LCD instrument console that provides all the information, location tracking, and service reminders.
More Information
Yamaha hasn't announced the price of the EC-06, but we expect the price to be similar to the River Indie, which sells for 1.46 lakhs (ex-showroom). These Scooters will also be built near River Indie's Hoskote manufacturing plant near Bangalore with Yamaha badging.
