Two-Wheeler Retails Sales Report - Modest Growth As Hero & Honda Continue To Dominate
In April 2025, the country witnessed a modest increase in two-wheeler (2W) vehicle sales, demonstrating a 2.25% year-over-year growth. This increment translates to selling 16,86,774 units, compared to 16,49,591 units in the same month the previous year, marking an uplift in volume by 37,183 units.
Hero MotoCorp led the charts in the 2W retail sales sector with 5,11,687 units sold. Despite a slight 0.12% decline from the previous year's sales of 5,12,298 units, Hero retained a significant 30.34% share of the market. However, Hero experienced a dip in volume by 611 units year-on-year and fell to the third position in wholesale prospects within the domestic market for April 2025.

Following Hero MotoCorp, Honda secured the second spot by selling 4,06,102 units, capturing a 24.08% share of the retail market in April 2025. Honda's sales saw a 2.7% increase year-over-year, with a gain of 10,671 units from the previous year. TVS Motor claimed the third position with 3,09,274 units sold, marking a significant 10.01% year-over-year growth and an increase of 28,144 units in volume.
In fourth place was Bajaj Auto, with 1,83,069 units sold, making up 10.85% of the market share. However, Bajaj experienced a 6.74% decline in sales year-over-year, resulting in a loss of 13,240 units in volume. Suzuki, on the other hand, enjoyed a 16.97% growth year-over-year, selling 91,741 units compared to 78,428 units the previous year, which reflected an increase of 13,313 units in volume.
Royal Enfield saw a healthy 8.92% increase in year-over-year sales, with 80,090 units sold, up from 73,532 units, translating into a gain of 6,558 units in volume. Yamaha, however, faced a downturn with a 6.85% decline in sales, selling 52,289 units compared to 56,135 units the previous year, leading to a decrease of 3,846 units in volume.
The electric two-wheeler segment presented a mixed bag of results. Ola Electric experienced the most significant year-over-year decline at 42.31%, with sales nearly halving to 19,709 units from 34,163 units the previous year. Conversely, Ather Energy showcased an impressive 217.74% growth, selling 13,167 units as opposed to 4,144 units the year before.
Other electric brands like Ampere also showed promising growth with 4,000 units sold, marking a 59.24% increase. However, Vespa and Aprilia faced an 11.65% decline in sales, with 2,563 units sold, and Jawa and Yezdi saw a 15.69% decrease, selling 2,391 units. The combined sales of other brands accounted for 10,692 units, indicating a generalized 9.41% year-over-year growth in the sector.
Despite fluctuating performances across different brands and segments, the overall 2W market demonstrated resilience and potential for growth. With electric two-wheelers showing varying trends of steep declines and remarkable growths, the dynamics of the market continue to evolve. This diversification in performance underscores the changing preferences and technological advancements shaping the future of the two-wheeler industry in India.
