TVS Orbiter vs Bajaj Chetak 3001: Budget Electric Scooters Comparison
India's electric scooter market is expanding fast, and a host of pocket-friendly EVs are attracting strong demand from commuters. Two models competing in this space are the newly launched TVS Orbiter and the Bajaj Chetak 3001. While both aim at affordability, Bajaj and TVS have approached their targets with different approaches.
The biggest visible change comes in the design. While the TVS Orbiter features a design that is both futuristic and fun (those colourful side panels), the Chetak goes for that old-school scooter look and features a full metal body offered in multiple bright colourways.

The Bajaj Chetak 3001 is powered by a hub-mounted motor with a peak output of 3.1kW. It draws energy from a 3kWh lithium-ion battery, offering a range of 127km on a single charge and a top speed of 63km/h. The battery pack fast charges (750W charger) from 0-80% in 3 hours and 50 minutes.
The TVS Orbiter also uses a hub-mounted motor. However, despite offering a lower peak power of 2.5kW, the Orbiter has a higher top speed of 68km/h. Its 3.1kWh battery pack delivers a range of 158km on a single charge, which is 31km more than the Chetak. However, the 0-80% fast charging time is slightly slower at 4 hours and 10 minutes as the Orbiter uses a 650W charger.

In terms of the suspension setup, the Chetak 3001 uses a trailing link unit at the front and a monoshock at the rear. The Orbiter, on the other hand, comes equipped with telescopic front forks and twin rear shocks. Both scooters feature drum brakes at both ends, and also feature a Combined Braking System to aid with coming to a quick stop.
The wheels are where the two scooters differ as well. The Chetak rides on 12-inch alloy wheels shod with 90/90 tubeless tyres. The Orbiter, on the other hand, sports a larger 14-inch front wheel shod with a 90/80 tyre, he rear wheel is a 12-ich unit with 90/90 rubber draped on.

Features add further differentiation between the two electric scooters. The Orbiter gets a digital LCD display with smartphone connectivity, multiple riding modes, and regenerative braking. The Chetak 3001 keeps its features simpler but offers an optional TekPack that adds upgrades such as Bluetooth integration and navigation, but at an additional cost.
In terms of practicality, the Chetak 3001 offers slightly better underseat storage space at 35 litres compared to the Orbiter's 34 litres. However, the Orbiter is lighter at 112kg compared to the Chetak's 123kg curb weight. The Orbiter also offers a lower seat height at 763mm to the Chetak's 775mm.
For buyers, the decision lies in priorities. The TVS Orbiter offers a futuristic look, longer range, a higher top speed and more features as standard. The Bajaj Chetak 3001, on the other hand, offers the old-school scooter look with a metal body and just enough tech so that it does not overwhelm riders.
