Norton 450: Legacy Brand With High Expectations
TVS Motors acquired the British brand Norton Motorcycles in 2020, and after several years of funding and development, it is now planning to launch the iconic brand in India. The first vehicle will be a 450cc bike, and TVS has confirmed that during the EICMA 2025 event. Here are our expectations for the TVS and Norton's debut model.
TVS-Norton 450 Expectations
A Retro Classic
As a British brand, Norton Motorcycles has many iconic retro-styled bikes, such as the Norton Commando. TVS recently announced it is developing a new 450cc Apache, so we expect Norton to design a retro-style bike. The bike is expected to feature a retro design along with many modern features such as traction control, dual-channel ABS, semi-digital instrument cluster, Liquid-cooling technology, Navigation, and even riding modes.
Powerful 450cc Engine
BMW unveiled its new F 450 GS adventure bike at the EICMA 2025 event. This bike uses a 450cc parallel twin-cylinder liquid-cooled engine co-developed by TVS. The Hosur-based manufacturer will use this engine for its upcoming Apache 450 bike.
We expect the same engine to power the Norton 450, as it will be manufactured in India by TVS. The 450cc engine produces 48 BHP and 43 NM of torque, which is enough to tackle the Royal Enfield 650 twins. According to some reports, many of the engine parts are made of magnesium, making it lightweight and agile.
Premium Pricing
Norton Motorcycles is known for its premium heritage. With the upcoming Norton 450 set to be locally manufactured in India, we expect the pricing to be around ₹3.5 lakh, making it more competitive in the 450cc segment. If the pricing is more affordable, then they can be a good competitor to Royal Enfield and Triumph. TVS is also planning to export the 450cc Norton bike to countries like the UK.
Service and Availability
Just like Bajaj and Triumph Motorcycles, TVS is also planning to open new Norton showrooms across India. Every metro city will likely have a Norton showroom, and with a wide dealership network, Norton Motorcycles can reach every part of the country and reach new customers. We expect TVS to manufacture spares locally, thereby reducing spares and service costs.
