TVS & Bajaj Electric Scooter Sales Skyrocket As Ola Slumps
India's electric scooter market is witnessing rapid growth, with June 2025 showcasing significant shifts. Traditional manufacturers like TVS and Bajaj are now leading the charge, capturing nearly half of the market. This change comes as EV startups like Ola Electric face declining sales amidst rising competition from established brands.
In June 2025, India saw 1.05 lakh electric two-wheelers registered, marking a 32% increase year-on-year and a 4% rise from May. The standout factor is the shift in market leadership, with traditional players gaining momentum. TVS Motor sold over 25,000 units, an impressive 80% increase from last year, securing a 24% market share.

Legacy Brands Gain Traction
Bajaj Auto also made significant strides, selling over 23,000 units in June — a remarkable 154% jump. The Chetak model has become a strong contender in the EV space. Bajaj's market share nearly doubled to 21.8%, thanks to its expanding presence in smaller cities. Together, TVS and Bajaj now control almost half of India's EV scooter market.
Ola Electric, once a dominant player, is experiencing a decline. It sold over 20,000 units in June '25, representing a 45% drop compared to the previous year. Its market share has decreased to 19.2%, down from 46.1%. Despite a slight month-on-month increase, Ola faces challenges from older rivals with better networks and services.

Emerging Players and Market Dynamics
Ather Energy is maintaining its position with over 14,500 units sold in June — up by 133% from last year. The updated family-centric Rizta series and new showrooms have helped Ather achieve a market share of 13.8%. Meanwhile, Hero MotoCorp is catching up quickly with over 7,600 units sold in June — a substantial increase of 149% year-on-year.
The Vida electric brand by Hero MotoCorp is gaining traction as it finally finds its footing in the market. Hero's market share now stands at 7.3%, bolstered by the launch of the affordable Vida VX2 model starting at Rs 59,490.
Challenges for Former Leaders
However, not all companies are thriving. Hero Electric and Okinawa are struggling due to intense competition and shifting consumer expectations. Hero Electric's sales plummeted by 86%, with only 41 scooters sold in June. Okinawa also faced challenges with sales dropping by 57% to just 159 units.
The broader picture for the April to June quarter shows that India registered approximately 2.98 lakh electric two-wheelers — a notable rise of 34% from last year. TVS doubled its sales during this period while Bajaj grew by an impressive 148%, and Hero MotoCorp surged by an astounding 223%.
Future Prospects for India's EV Market
The trend indicates that as electric scooters become mainstream, consumers prefer brands they trust and recognise. With more launches anticipated later this year from major players like Yamaha and Suzuki entering the scene, India's electric vehicle landscape is poised for further evolution.
