Triumph Thruxton 400: Top 5 Highlights You Should Know

The Thruxton 400, the latest addition to the Bajaj-Triumph collaboration, has been launched in India with a price tag of Rs 2.74 lakh ex-showroom. This café racer shares its platform with the Speed 400 but boasts unique styling, revised ergonomics, and a slight power increase. The Thruxton name has long been synonymous with café racers in Triumph's lineup, and this model continues that tradition.

Powertrain

Powering the Thruxton 400 is a retuned version of the Speed 400's engine. The 398cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled engine now delivers 42hp, an increase of 2hp. Peak power is achieved at 9,000rpm, which is 1,000rpm higher than before. Torque remains at 37.5Nm, and the engine is paired with a 6-speed gearbox featuring a slipper clutch.

Design

The Thruxton 400 stands out with its café racer design elements. It features a half bikini fairing, clip-on bars, bar-end mirrors, and a remote brake reservoir. The black USD fork replaces the golden one found on the Speed 400. Side panels are refreshed with Thruxton badging and brushed aluminium accents.

A single-seat setup comes standard on the Thruxton 400, complete with a rear cowl that can be removed to reveal a pillion seat and black grab rail. At the back, it swaps the Speed 400's circular tail-light for a rectangular unit. The fuel tank retains its capacity of 13 litres but includes new design tweaks for the Triumph logo inset.

Hardware

The chassis, suspension, and braking components remain largely unchanged from the Speed 400. However, there are subtle geometry adjustments: suspension travel increases by 10mm to reach 140mm; wheelbase shortens by 10mm to measure at 1,376mm; ground clearance decreases by 7mm to stand at 158mm; seat height rises slightly to become more accessible at 795mm.

Weighing in at 183kg-4kg heavier than its predecessor-the bike offers either MRF or Apollo tyres based on supply chain availability. Triumph assures comparable performance regardless of tyre choice as both options have been benchmarked.

Features

The feature list on the Thruxton mirrors that of its sibling model-the Speed-with identical digi-analogue instrument cluster showcasing vertical rev counter alongside gear position indicator while safety equipment includes dual-channel ABS plus traction control system.

Colour Options

The Thruxton 400 is available in four striking colours-red, yellow, black, and white. Moreover, all models sport contrasting diagonal stripes adding visual appeal without compromising functionality or performance capabilities inherent within each variant offered under this exciting new release from Triumph Motorcycles India division today!

DriveSpark Thinks

The Thruxton's unique café racer style sets it apart in Triumph's range without direct competition in its segment. While Royal Enfield's Continental GT650 shares some stylistic similarities, it features a different engine configuration entirely-a parallel-twin setup cooled by air and oil rather than liquid cooling like this model does so effectively well indeed!
