Royal Enfield Scram 440 Bookings Resume - Starter Issue Fixed

Royal Enfield has resumed bookings for the Scram 440 motorcycle. This comes after a suspension lasting over a month due to a minor technical issue. Although the company hasn't officially announced this, dealers across India have started accepting bookings again.

Availability of the once again available Royal Enfield Scram 440 remains limited but that is expected to increase gradually as the firm ramps up production. The waiting period for the Scram 440 varies depending on the colour option available with dealers, with some options pushing back delivery dates by up to a month.

Royal Enfield Scram 440: The Issue and The Fix

The Scram 440's sales were initially paused in April, shortly after its launch by Royal Enfield. A faulty component in the bike was identified as the cause of starting issues, particularly after prolonged use. This problem did not pose any safety risks and there were no reports of stalling. Only 2% of delivered units experienced this issue, and they were recalled for repairs at authorised service centres.

The issue was traced back to a component called the Woodruff key within the magneto, which caused some engines to struggle with restarting after being turned off. Royal Enfield has addressed this problem, ensuring that the motorcycle now operates as intended.

The Scram 440 sports a new 443cc (bored out from the prvious Scram 411's unit) air/oil-cooled engine that generates 25.4bhp at 6,250rpm and 34Nm of torque at 4,000rpm. It features a six-speed gearbox and rides on a combination of 19-inch front and 17-inch rear wheels. Depending on the variant, it may come with alloy or spoke wheels. The braking system includes single discs at both ends with switchable dual-channel ABS.

Weighing in at 196kg (kerb), the Scram 440 has a fuel tank capacity of 15 litres and a seat height of 795mm. The bike serves as a replacement for the older Scram 411 model in Royal Enfield's lineup. It is available in five colours and priced between Rs 2.08 lakh to Rs 2.15 lakh (ex-showroom) for different variants.

The Scram 440's top "Force" variant includes features like switchable ABS and alloy wheels. The pricing varies based on the variant chosen, with options such as Trail and Force available to customers. Royal Enfield assures that all necessary measures have been taken to resolve the technical issues previously faced by some units of the Scram 440 motorcycle.
