Royal Enfield Hunter 350 Vs Jawa 42 FJ: Features, Specs, & Powertrain Compared
Royal Enfield has introduced an updated version of its 'Hunter 350' motorcycle. Initially launched in 2022, the Hunter 350 now sees a refresh after three years. This model competes with other Royal Enfield bikes like the Classic 350 and Bullet 350, as well as with motorcycles from other brands such as the Jawa 42. Jawa, a well-known name in India, re-entered the market with its '42' bike, which despite its name, features a 300cc engine. The Jawa 42 also competes with Royal Enfield's Hunter 350 and has recently received a significant update.
The Jawa 42 was relaunched in September 2024 as the Jawa 42 FJ (FJ), featuring a new engine. This article will explore the similarities and differences between the newly launched 2025 Hunter 350 and the Jawa 42 FJ.
Design
The Hunter 350 distinguishes itself from other Royal Enfield models with its lightweight and straightforward design, appealing to younger riders. While the design remains unchanged for the 2025 update, new graphics have been introduced along with three fresh paint options: Rio White, Tokyo Black, and London. Minor adjustments have also been made to the seat design.
In contrast, the Jawa 42 FJ offers a sportier appearance compared to its predecessor. Targeting young enthusiasts, it features multi-spoke alloy wheels and an upward-facing exhaust pipe, merging traditional elements with modern aesthetics.
Powertrain
The updated Hunter 350 adheres to the new OBD-2P emission standards but retains its engine's power output. It continues to use a 349cc air/oil-cooled engine producing 20.2 bhp and 27 Nm of torque. This engine is coupled with a 5-speed gearbox and now includes a slip and assist clutch. Meanwhile, the Jawa 42 FJ boasts a new engine upgrade from its previous version.
The earlier model had a 294.7cc liquid-cooled engine, but the new FJ version now uses a 334cc liquid-cooled engine previously seen in other Jawa models. This engine delivers 28.7 bhp and 29.62 Nm of torque and is paired with a 6-speed gearbox.
Suspension & Braking
A notable enhancement in the 2025 Hunter 350 is its improved rear suspension setup. Previously equipped with dual shock absorbers with thinner coils, the new model adds extra coils for better performance on rough roads. The front suspension employs dual forks, while braking is managed by disc brakes on both wheels.
