Royal Enfield Himalayan Electric(HIM E) Spied Charging During High Altitude Trials
The upcoming Royal Enfield Himalayan Electric (HIM E) has been spotted testing up in the north once again. Spy photographs show prototypes being charged in what appears to be Himachal Pradesh using fixed charging stations and mobile units mounted on generator-equipped vehicles.
The test mules show what appear to be two separate battery packs. Whether these are removable is still up in the air, though the fact that the Himalayan Electric had to be plugged in does take the possibility away.

The design of the Himalayan Electric still strongly resembles the classic ICE version, with wire-spoke wheels, tall suspension, a high front fender, and long travel Ohlins forks. Also seen are knobby dual-purpose tyres and Ohlins rear monoshock and a rugged chassis layout. Wheel sizes appear similar to ICE Himalayan models, though final specifications are yet to be confirmed.
Powertrain details are also unconfirmed. The HIM E uses a mid-mounted electric motor, possibly sourced from Stark Future SL, the Spanish EV firm Royal Enfield's parent company Eicher, invested into back in late 2022.

Charging infrastructure is clearly a focal point during this testing phase. Ladakh and Himachal Pradesh's remote stretches offer few fixed chargers. Royal Enfield is using mobile diesel generator vans to support the trials of the Himalayan Electric, ensuring continuous charging whenever grid stations are unavailable.
Royal Enfield has not set a launch date for the Electric Himalayan. However, the EV version of the firm's adventure bike is expected to arrive post the launch of the Himalayan 750, which could happen as early as November this year at the firm's Motoverse festival in Goa.

One thing to note is that the prototypes of the Royal Enfield Himalayan Electric carry many features that may evolve before production. The Himalayan Electric promises to bring Royal Enfield's off-road DNA into the EV era. However, its success will hinge on how well range, charging accessibility and off-road terrain performance are delivered when it finally goes on sale.
