Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 Vs KTM 390 Adventure X: Post GST 2.0 Price Comparison

With the implementation of the new GST 2.0 rates, the two-wheeler market in India has seen a reshuffle in prices. Motorcycles with engines below 350cc have become more affordable, while those with engines above 350cc are now more expensive.

This change directly affects popular adventure motorcycles like the Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 and the KTM 390 Adventure X. Here's how the new prices compare after the tax revision.

Royal Enfield Himalayan 450: Price Hike After GST 2.0

The price of the Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 has gone up by as much as Rs 22,000 after GST 2.0. Previously, prices ranged from Rs 2.85 lakh to Rs 2.98 lakh (ex-showroom), depending on the colour option. Now, the updated pricing stands between Rs 3.06 lakh and Rs 3.20 lakh. The only variation between the models remains the paint scheme, with Hanle Black continuing as the most premium option.

The Himalayan 450 is powered by a 452cc single-cylinder, liquid-cooled Sherpa engine that delivers 40hp at 8,000rpm and 40Nm of torque at 5,500rpm, paired with a six-speed gearbox. Despite the price hike, it continues to be a capable and rugged adventure tourer designed for both on-road and off-road exploration.

KTM 390 Adventure X: Price Remains Unchanged

Interestingly, despite the GST revision, the KTM 390 Adventure X retains its previous price tag. When launched, the 390 Adventure X was priced at around Rs 2.90 lakh (ex-showroom). Later, KTM added several premium features from the higher-spec model - including cruise control, riding modes (Street, Rain, and Off-road), cornering ABS, and traction control - which pushed the price to Rs 3.03 lakh (ex-showroom).

KTM has now absorbed the additional GST costs, keeping the motorcycle at the same price point. The 390 Adventure X differs from the top-spec 390 Adventure mainly in wheel setup - it uses 19-inch front and 17-inch rear alloy wheels, compared to the 21-inch front and 17-inch rear spoked wheels on the standard model.

Price Comparison: Himalayan 450 Vs 390 Adventure X

Before GST 2.0, the Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 was more affordable than the KTM 390 Adventure X. However, the new tax revision has flipped the situation. With KTM holding prices steady, the 390 Adventure X is now Rs 17,000 cheaper than the top-end Himalayan 450 and around Rs 3,000 less than the base variant.

DriveSpark Thinks

While the Himalayan continues to offer classic adventure charm and rugged off-road capability, the KTM 390 Adventure X emerges as the better value-for-money option, given its richer feature list, lighter kerb weight, and standard alloy wheels with tubeless tyres - a feature that costs extra on the Himalayan.
