Royal Enfield Guerrilla 450 & Triumph Speed 400 Price Difference Widens Post GST 2.0

The revised GST structure has reshaped pricing across several segments, but few comparisons are as intriguing as that between the Royal Enfield Guerrilla 450 and the Triumph Speed 400.

While Royal Enfield has passed on the increased tax burden to customers, Bajaj-Triumph has gone in the opposite direction - absorbing the GST impact and even cutting prices further. The result is a significant and unexpected price difference between these two popular roadsters.

Royal Enfield Guerrilla 450 Vs Triumph Speed 400

Royal Enfield Guerrilla 450: Prices Go Up

Royal Enfield's new Guerrilla 450 has become more expensive following the GST revision. The base variant now costs Rs 2.56 lakh, up from Rs 2.39 lakh, marking an increase of just over Rs 17,000. The top-spec versions, previously priced at Rs 2.54 lakh, have risen by nearly Rs 18,500 to Rs 2.72 lakh.

The Guerrilla 450 is powered by a 452cc single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine producing 40hp and 40Nm. It uses a telescopic fork up front and a rear monoshock, riding on 17-inch alloy wheels at both ends. The bike comes equipped with dual-channel ABS, a slip-and-assist clutch, and a mix of analog or digital instrument clusters, depending on the variant, along with Royal Enfield's Tripper navigation system.

Triumph Speed 400: Prices Drop Further

In contrast, Triumph's Speed 400 has become even more affordable. Initially, the company announced that it would maintain pre-GST pricing at Rs 2.51 lakh. But ahead of the festive season, Triumph surprised buyers with an additional price cut of Rs 16,797, bringing the Speed 400 down to Rs 2.34 lakh.

The Speed 400 is powered by a 398cc single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine that delivers 40hp and 37.5Nm - figures nearly identical to the Guerrilla's. However, the Triumph is lighter at 179kg, making it around 5kg less than the Royal Enfield. Suspension duties are handled by an upside-down fork and a rear monoshock, while features include dual-channel ABS, switchable traction control, and a digi-analog instrument cluster that, while simpler, suits the Speed's minimalist appeal.

Shocking Price Difference

At present, the Triumph Speed 400 at Rs 2.34 lakh undercuts the base Royal Enfield Guerrilla 450 by Rs 22,000. When compared with the top-spec Guerrilla variant, the gap widens to a substantial Rs 38,000. Before the GST revision and Triumph's festive discount, the difference between the two was as little as Rs 5,000 - a drastic change in just a few weeks.

DriveSpark Thinks

Triumph has yet to confirm how long its current pricing will last or whether it will continue absorbing the GST-related costs. For now, however, the Speed 400 clearly stands out as the more value-oriented offering, blending strong performance, lighter weight, and a lower entry price - a compelling combination in the competitive mid-capacity motorcycle space.
