River Indie vs Yamaha EC-06: Reasons Why The Indie Electric Scooter Is The Better Value?
Yamaha has launched their new electric scooter in India, the EC-06. This was developed based on the River Indie scooter and will be entirely manufactured at River EVs' Bengaluru manufacturing plant. But comparing the two scooters makes us feel like the Yamaha EV is a downgrade to the indian version.
River Indie vs Yamaha EC-06: Why Indie is the better value?
Visually striking design
At first sight, the River Indie is more visually striking than the Yamaha EC-06. The twin LED headlights at the front with those bright colours are definitely attention-grabbing and stylish. On the other hand, Yamaha went for a plain, sharp and simple design with a single LED headlamp at the front, which may appeal to some buyers who love simplicity.

Enormous Storage space
The River Indie offers more storage space than the Yamaha EC-06 scooter. The Bangalore-based brand calls itself the 'SUV of electric scooters', and gives SUV-like storage space to keep all belongings. The Combined storage space in the river indie is 55 litres, whereas the EC-06 offers only 24.5 litres of under-seat storage, which is a huge downgrade.
Range Difference
Yamaha claims a certified range of 160km for the EC-06, while River Indie's certified range is 163 km. There is not much difference in the range, but in the real world, the Yamaha EC-06 range will always be less than the River Indie.
Both use the same 4 kWh Lithium-ion battery, with a 4.5 kW Mid-drive PMSM (Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor). The motor produces around 6.7 kW peak power with a maximum torque of around 26 Nm.

Fast Charging Capabilities
Both electric scooters have a total charging time of around 9 hours. River Indie comes with a 750kW fast charger option that can reduce the total charging time to up to 5 hours. Yamaha hasn't announced anything about the EC-06's fast-charging support. We expect it to be announced soon.
Additional accessories
River Indie is also offering additional accessories, such as pannier mounts, grab mounts, a backrest, a centre stand, mount racks, a waterproof mobile holder, and a detachable floor cage for groceries, which add more convenience for customers. We expect some of these features to arrive on the Yamaha electric scooter when they make the full announcement.
