River Indie Gets 8-Year Battery & Motor Warranty - Priced At ₹8,399 + GST
River, the Bengaluru-based EV startup, has launched an extended warranty for its lone offering, the Indie electric scooter, effective 1 October 2025. The new plan offers eight years or 80,000 kilometres of coverage specifically for the battery pack and the drive motor components for buyers of the River Indie.
Customers interested in the extended warranty for the Indie can enquire at River's company-owned stores and authorised dealers; purchase terms, activation procedures, and claim processes will be handled through River's service network and official channels.

Pricing for the new 8 year or 80,000km warranty program for the battery pack and motor of the River Indie is ₹8,399 plus GST for new customers. Owners who previously purchased River's five-year extended warranty can upgrade to the eight-year plan. The upgrade requires an additional payment of ₹3,399 plus GST and must be completed within a one-month window following the rollout of the new programme.
The warranty's battery clause states a replacement will be provided if the lithium-ion pack's "State of Health" falls below 70 percent, a threshold intended to protect riders from severe range loss without bearing full replacement costs during the warranty term. Motor protection under the plan covers cases where the electric motor becomes irreparable after assessment; River will replace the unit when repair attempts fail.

Sachin Patial, Service Head, River said, "We are excited to introduce this extended warranty initiative, which underscores our strong confidence in River's engineering and product quality. With this 8-year warranty covering both the battery and motor, we aim to go beyond expectations by reinforcing our promise of durable and dependable mobility solutions."
The River Indie is positioned as the "SUV of Scooters", a practical commuter scooter by the Bengaluru startup and it features wide footboards, ample storage spaces, and a utility-first layout designed for city use.
River operates 32 outlets in 15 cities across the country, including Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Mysuru, Kochi and Visakhapatnam, and is opening new stores in Pune, Vijayawada and Trivandrum. The company plans to expand its retail footprint to other major centres in the country by 2026.
At present, the River Indie remains the firm's only product offering while additional models are under development. River has not disclosed launch dates for new models but has signalled greater investment in aftersales and retail expansion to support future growth, while engineering and testing continue.
DriveSpark Thinks
The new warranty package for the River Indie aims to reduce ownership anxiety by covering the two most expensive components in an electric scooter, the battery and motor. This will help with improving resale value and ownership confidence for long-term users of the River Indie in India and will hopefully also result in an uptick in sales.
