KTM RC160 Speculations: The Biggest Challenger For The Yamaha R15
KTM is reportedly testing the new RC16 in India, and if the rumours are real, it will be the biggest challenger for the Yamaha R15. KTM already sells the Duke 160, so the arrival of the RC160 is very positive. If launched, what features can we expect in the RC160? Let's find out.
KTM RC 160 Speculations
Fully Faired Bike
The bike's design will be fully faired, taking design cues from the KTM RC200. If launched, the RC160 will be KTM's Cheapest Fully faired bike. The bike could be similar to the RC200, but in a smaller size. The split-seat setup and the graphics designs from the RC200 are more likely to be carried over to the Mini RC160.
Powerful 160cc engine
The RC160 engine specifications will be similar to the KTM Duke 160. It will have a 164.2cc, single-cylinder, SOHC, liquid-cooled engine. The power output levels are 19PS and 15.5Nm torque. It will be mated with a 6-speed gearbox.
Solid riding dynamics and equipment
KTM will more likely borrow riding dynamics and equipment from the Duke 160 and the RC200. It will have full LED headlamps, an LCD speedometer, SuperMoto ABS, 17-inch alloy wheels, a Split-steel trellis frame, WP-USD forks and WP-monoshock suspension.
Other Features
Additionally, the RC160 is expected to receive MotoGP-inspired bodywork, Adjustable handlebars with risers, and new pillion seats. The colour options could include Electronic Orange, Atlantis Blue and Silver Metallic Matte.
How does it play against R15?
The Yamaha R15 has dominated India's entry-level sports bike segment for more than a decade. The Power levels remain similar, but the upcoming KTM RC160 is expected to be a more powerful motorcycle.
Over the years, the R15 has faced rivals such as the Honda CBR150, Suzuki Gixxer, and Hero Karizma, yet it continues to stand tall as the top-selling entry-level sports bike. If the RC160 arrives in India, it will be the toughest and most powerful rival the R15 has ever faced.
