KTM RC 160 Launch Details Revealed - Will Compete With The Yamaha R15
KTM is gearing up to introduce the RC 160, poised to challenge the Yamaha R15, with its launch set to happen by October, claims a new report by Bikewale. Bookings for the KTM RC 160 will open in September, the same month the all-new 160 Duke launches.
By entering the 160cc class and phasing out the 125cc models, KTM aims to capture a significant market share from Yamaha. The strategic discontinuation of the RC 125 and the Duke 125 in March was a move to shift towards higher displacement motorcycles, indicating KTM's ambition to strengthen its position in this entry-level sports bike segment.
The decision to develop the 160 Duke on the existing Duke 200's platform is a tactical move by KTM to manage costs effectively. This approach is not only beneficial for the 160 Duke but also for the upcoming RC 160, ensuring that KTM can offer this new entry-level sports bike at an attractive price.
From a technical standpoint, the RC 160 is expected to share the 160 cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine with the 160 Duke. This engine, essentially a modified version of the one powering the KTM RC 200, is anticipated to deliver approximately 20 bhp and 15 Nm of torque.
Features like a 6-speed gearbox and a standard quickshifter, along with the frame, suspension, and braking systems from the RC 200, are expected to make the RC 160 a formidable contender against the R15 in terms of performance and handling.
KTM has strategically planned the launch timings for the RC 160 and the 160 Duke to maximize public interest and anticipation. With the RC 160's showroom appearance scheduled for early October and bookings opening in September, KTM aims to leverage the time leading up to the launches to generate excitement among potential buyers who will be looking to open up their pursestrings come the sestive season.
