KTM 390 Enduro R Launched In India At Rs 336,500 - The Adventure's New Clothes

Austrian motorcycle manufacturer KTM has launched the 390 Enduro R in India, setting its price at Rs. 3,36,500 (ex-showroom) which is notably less than the KTM 390 Adventure by Rs. 30,000. The new KTM 390 Enduro R is the dual-sport variant of the 390 lineup, drawing heavily from the features and design of the 390 Adventure series, but with distinctive off-road capabilities.

The 390 Enduro R shares most of its mechanical underpinnings with the KTM 390 Adventure range but stands out due to its reduced weight and modified suspension. Weighing in at 177kg, it is 5-6kg lighter than the 390 Adventure models, a result of its minimalistic bodywork and a smaller 9-litre fuel tank. This weight reduction enhances its agility and off-road prowess, making it a more maneuverable option for enthusiasts.

The KTM 390 Enduro R comes equipped with a 399cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled engine, the same as the one found in the 390 Duke and 390 Adventure, delivering a power output of 46hp and torque of 39Nm. The bike's launch introduces a more affordable, yet robust alternative within KTM's lineup, aimed at off-road enthusiasts.

Engineered for Off-Road Excellence

The suspension system of the 390 Enduro R, specifically tailored for the Indian market, features 200mm front and 205mm rear travel, slightly less than the international model. This adjustment has made the bike more accessible with a seat height of 860mm, compared to 890mm in the global variant. Despite these modifications, the motorcycle maintains a high ground clearance of 253mm, ensuring its capability in off-road conditions. Its main frame and swingarm, shared with the 390 Adventure, support its rugged functionality. The bike's braking system comprises a 285mm front rotor and a 240mm rear rotor, with the latter being identical to that of the 390 Adventure.

Boasting a striking similarity to its international counterpart, the 390 Enduro R features a slender design, minimalistic body panels, and rides on 21/18-inch tube-type spoke wheels dressed in Mitas Enduro Trail tyres. The suspension duties are managed by fully adjustable WP Apex upside-down forks and a WP monoshock with preload and rebound adjustment, ensuring a smooth ride across varied terrains. Additionally, the motorcycle is equipped with disc brakes at both ends, with the functionality to disable the ABS, providing riders with more control during off-road adventures.

Advanced Features and Accessibility

The KTM 390 Enduro R is not just about raw power and agility. It also comes packed with modern features including full-LED lighting, a 4.2-inch TFT display offering Bluetooth connectivity, two riding modes, and a traction control system. These features contribute to a safer and more enjoyable riding experience, allowing riders to customize their ride according to their preferences and the challenges of the terrain. Furthermore, the bike's larger 48-tooth rear sprocket enhances its low-end torque, making it easier to tackle steep and rugged paths.

Despite being lighter than the ADV, the India-spec 390 Enduro R, at 177kg kerb weight, is slightly heavier than the international version. This is due to the additional components required to meet Indian homologation standards, such as a saree guard and engine crash guards. Nonetheless, this does not significantly impact its performance or appeal among the target audience.

KTM has also announced the impending launch of the international-spec model of the 390 Enduro R in India. This version will feature a suspension travel of 230mm at both ends, further enhancing its off-road capabilities. The introduction of both variants underscores KTM's commitment to catering to the diverse preferences of Indian riders, offering models that excel in both on-road and off-road conditions.

Speaking on the launch, Manik Nangia, President Pro-Biking, Bajaj Auto Ltd said, "Today marks a significant milestone for KTM in India as we proudly launch the KTM 390 ENDURO R, a true embodiment of our 'Ready to Race' ethos. Building upon KTM's rich legacy in enduro competition, dating back to our first World Championship win in 1990, this motorcycle redefines versatility in the sub-500cc class. The KTM 390 ENDURO R offers riders the confidence to conquer both urban landscapes and challenging off-road trails. We believe this machine, with its enduro-focused platform and advanced features, will empower a new generation of riders to explore their limits. The KTM 390 ENDURO R isn't just a motorcycle; it's an invitation to redefine your ride, from daily commutes to weekend off-road adventures."

The KTM 390 Enduro R presents a compelling choice for off-road enthusiasts in India. Its competitive pricing, coupled with advanced features and robust performance, positions it as a strong contender against rivals like the Kawasaki KLX230. As the lighter, more off-road-oriented sibling within KTM’s lineup, the 390 Enduro R promises an exhilarating riding experience for adventurers seeking to explore beyond the paved roads.
