Kawasaki W230 Coming To India? Instagram Teaser Raise Questions
Japanese two-wheeler manufacturer Kawasaki has recently celebrated the 60th anniversary of its popular W series bikes. Along with this, the W230 retro bike has been teased on the Indian page, sparking rumours about its potential launch in the Indian market by 2026.
They posted a video of the W230 on Instagram with the caption, "Bringing the joy of riding to all. The W230 inherits the traditional style and riding pedigree of the W brand. Kawasaki's W Series marks the 60th anniversary of the birth of its first model, the 1965 650-W1."

Kawasaki already sells the W175 in India, and it would not be a big challenge for the company to bring the more powerful W230. This bike is currently sold globally and follows a similar old-school design philosophy to the W175.

The W230 is powered by a 233cc single-cylinder SOHC air-cooled engine that produces 17 hp at 7,000 rpm and 18.98 Nm of torque at 5,800 rpm. Considering these power and torque figures, the bike is expected to offer strong pulling power and quick acceleration. It is paired with a 6-speed gearbox with a return-shift.
This bike is built on a semi-double cradle steel chassis for better durability. The suspension setup includes 37mm telescopic forks at the front and twin shocks with preload adjustability at the rear. Braking consists of 265mm and 220mm disc brakes with dual-channel ABS. It also comes with an 11-litre fuel tank, spoke wheels, a single exhaust system, and has an overall weight of 142 kg.

The Kawasaki W175 is currently struggling to find buyers in India, although it enjoys success in markets like Indonesia and Thailand. It is also expected to launch in the US soon, as the company already sells this made-in-India product in the Mexican market. The W175 is sold in India at 1.25 lakh (ex-showroom).
If the launch rumours are real, the W230 could arrive in India by 2026 and could be priced at around 1.50 lakh (ex-showroom). It is currently available in a single colour option, Metallic Matte Dark Green. It could compete against bikes such as the Yamaha XSR 155, TVS Ronin 225, and Royal Enfield Hunter 350.
