Two-Wheeler Sales Overview(June 2025): Hero Leads As Honda Continues Worrying Slide

The Indian two-wheeler market in June 2025 presented a mixed picture. While some companies showed growth, others faced challenges. The industry is navigating through changing market dynamics, the rise of electric vehicles (EVs), and strategic shifts among original equipment manufacturers (OEMs). Hero MotoCorp led the pack with significant sales, but the overall landscape is complex.

Hero MotoCorp achieved impressive sales figures in June 2025, selling 525,136 units. This marked a 7.4% increase from May and a 6.9% rise compared to the previous year. The company's success is attributed to strong rural demand and an effective product mix realignment. Hero's Splendor and HF Deluxe models remain popular among budget-conscious buyers.

In contrast, Honda experienced a decline in sales, with only 389,809 units sold in June. This represents a 6.8% month-on-month decrease and a significant 19.4% drop year-on-year. The brand faces stiff competition in both internal combustion engine (ICE) and EV scooter categories, impacting its market position.

TVS Motor reported mixed results with 281,455 units sold in June, down by 9.1% from May but up by 9.9% year-on-year. TVS's strength lies in its robust performance in the EV segment, particularly with the TVS iQube scooter leading sales in India. Their dual strategy of maintaining ICE sales while pushing EVs has proven successful.

Bajaj Auto faced a sharp decline in domestic sales, recording only 149,474 units in June—a 22% drop from May and a 16.2% decrease year-on-year. Despite healthy exports and strong urban model demand like Pulsar and Dominar, domestic demand fell short due to price sensitivity and availability issues.

Suzuki Motorcycle India posted solid growth with 95,244 units sold, showing a robust 34% year-on-year increase despite an 11.6% month-on-month decline. Suzuki's Access 125 and Burgman Street scooters continue to perform well in urban areas, contributing to their steady foothold in the mid-premium segment.

Royal Enfield recorded stable growth with 76,957 units sold in June—a modest increase of 1.5% month-on-month and a more substantial rise of 16.4% year-on-year. Models like Hunter 350 and Classic 350 drive this growth through their aspirational appeal and community-based marketing strategies.

The electric two-wheeler segment saw significant traction with over 1 lakh units sold in June—a remarkable growth of 32% year-on-year. TVS iQube led the market share at approximately 24%, followed by Bajaj Chetak at around 22%. Ola Electric and Ather Energy also made notable contributions to this growing sector.

Market Dynamics

Comparing May to June reveals a slight dip from 17.29 lakh to 16.8 lakh units—around a 3% contraction due to monsoon effects on ICE demand. However, comparing June year-on-year shows about a 6% industry-wide growth indicating recovery from post-pandemic stagnation alongside early signs of structural EV integration.

The evolving landscape highlights that electrification is cushioning industry slowdowns as brands with strong EV portfolios report healthier total sales with less seasonal volatility than those relying solely on ICE models.

The two-wheeler market dynamics have shifted significantly by June's end; Hero maintains dominance through scale but faces challenges with its electric offerings lagging behind competitors like TVS who excel across both ICE & EV sectors positioning themselves as future-ready OEMs amidst ongoing transformations within India's automotive industry landscape.
