Honda CB300R Removed from Website — Is It Discontinued?
Honda has silently removed its Neo Sports Cafe racer, the CB300R, from its official website. There were also reports that Honda is stopping production of the bike, and dealers were asked to clear the remaining stocks and instructed not to receive any further bookings for this model.
The Honda CB300R is a street cafe bike that competes against the KTM Duke 250, Bajaj Dominar 250, TVS Apache RTR 300, and Suzuki Gixxer 250. But since launch, the bike never had positive sales volume, even after reducing the ex-showroom price.
Unlike other successful models like the Honda Highness CB350, CB350, and CB350 RS, the sales for the neo cafe bike never took off. And now it has been removed from their website, production, and sales.
Journey of Honda CB300 R in India
The Honda CB300R started its journey in 2019 as a CKD product, but was discontinued after the new BS6 2 emission norms that were introduced in 2020. Honda again reintroduced this bike in 2022, after localising many of its components and a BS6-compliant engine with a lower starting price of 2.77 lakhs (ex-showroom).
The CB300R came with a 286cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled engine that produces 31.1 PS and 27.5 Nm of torque with a 6-speed gearbox and slipper clutch assist. It had a top speed of 150 km/h and weighed just 146 kg, making it best suited for cities.
It had safety features such as standard dual-channel ABS, an Inertial Measurement Unit for braking, LED headlamps, front and rear disc brakes, USD forks, and Shock absorbers. The last known price of the CB300R is 2.19 lakhs (ex-showroom).
Honda also failed to market the product as it was available only in Big Wing showrooms in India. If it had been sold in normal Honda dealerships, it would have garnered more attention and could have survived.
At the same time, the 250-300cc segment had some tough competitors, like KTM, Bajaj, Suzuki, and TVS. It would be nice to see if Honda brings a better replacement for the Honda CB300R in the same category, like the CBR-250R.
