Honda Activa E: Becomes More Affordable: Here's How

Honda Motorcycles and Scooters India (HMSI) has ventured into India's electric scooter market with the Activa e and QC1. This makes Honda the first Japanese brand to enter this segment in India, ahead of Suzuki and Yamaha. However, the launch faced challenges due to high initial prices and battery rental costs.

To address these concerns, Honda introduced a more affordable Battery as a Service (BaaS) Lite Plan for the Activa e. This move aims to enhance its attractiveness among potential buyers. The Activa e was initially priced between Rs 1.17 lakh and Rs 1.52 lakh (ex-showroom) in India.

Battery Rental Plans

The Activa e offers a unique battery swapping system, unlike other mainstream electric scooters. However, it cannot be charged at home or DC charging stations; only battery swaps are possible. Initially, the BaaS plans were costly, starting at Rs 1,999 for up to 35 kWh per month under the Basic Plan and Rs 3,599 for up to 82 kWh per month under the Advance Plan.

In response to feedback, Honda launched a new Lite Plan for Rs 678 for up to 20 kWh per month (excluding GST). These plans are additional costs on top of the base price of the Activa e. Currently, Honda Power Pack Energy India maintains battery swapping stations only in Bengaluru.

Features and Specifications

The Activa e is equipped with two removable 1.5 kWh battery packs that power a mid-mounted motor. It promises a range of 102 km on a single charge. Due to its removable batteries, there is minimal boot space under the seat. The scooter features a 7-inch instrument cluster without touch support and all-LED lighting.

New EV Concept Store

To further promote its electric scooters, HMSI opened an EV concept store in Mantri Square Mall, Malleshwaram, Bengaluru. This showroom highlights Honda's advancements in land mobility and aviation through various displays. Customers can explore models like the Activa e and QC1 at the Product Display Zone.

The store also includes a Kids Interaction Zone and Safe Tech Zone where visitors can learn about core components such as batteries, motors, chargers, and Mobile Power Packs. Additionally, international exhibits like the Honda Jet scale model and Honda Electric Racing Go-Kart are featured.

This strategic expansion into electric scooters marks an important step for HMSI in India's growing market for sustainable transportation solutions.
