GST Hike: Made-In-India Bikes Above 350cc That Are Set To Get Costlier - Royal Enfield, KTM, Triumph & More
The Indian government's Finance Ministry recently announced big changes to India's Goods and Services Tax (GST) structure. And while the news has been mostly positive for the automotive industry, one section has had a very rude shock which will result in a hike in prices come September 22, 2025.
The affected section of the industry are two-wheelers with engines above 350cc that will now attract a 40 per cent GST rate, up from the current 31 per cent slab (28% GST + 3% cess).

The sharpest impact falls on premium motorcycles manufactured in India with engines ranging between 373 cc and 650 cc. These include popular models from Bajaj, KTM, Triumph, Harley-Davidson, and Royal Enfield. All these bikes will see on-road costs rise from the 22nd of September.
Bajaj's Dominar and NS400Z are among the most accessible performance bikes to be impacted and prices for these two bikes are expected to rise by up to ₹22,000. KTM's 390 line-up, manufactured in India by Bajaj, sees hikes between ₹28,000 and ₹34,000, making its enthusiast-focused models significantly more expensive.

Triumph's new 400 series of bikes, which are also manufactured in India also faces similar cost escalations across all variants. Another manufacturer associated with Bajaj, Husqvarna, will see its Vitpilen 401 get a similar price hike.
Harley-Davidson's sole made-in-India model, the X440, which is built with the help of Hero MotoCorp, will also see its prices go up by around ₹22,000. Aprilia's new 457 series of motorcycles, manufactured in India by the Piaggio Group, will also see prices go up by over ₹40,000.

But the biggest financial hit will be on Royal Enfield. The Chennai-based firm has dominated the 350cc+ bike market for ages, and its entire lineup of 450cc (Himalayan and Scram) and 650cc twin-cylinder motorcycles are set to receive a hike of up to ₹34,000, which will make them much dearer to buy for fans of the marque.

| Bear 650 | 648 cc | 3.49 | 3.82 | +33,000 |
Imported motorcycles built as CBUs or assembled as CKDs are expected to suffer even larger price increases because GST will apply over existing customs duties. We expect final on-road costs for such bikes to rise by lakhs of rupees.
With the new GST structure, bikes under 350 cc are set to become more affordable while premium motorcycles above that threshold grow costlier. For enthusiasts, this means budgeting higher for mid-capacity models as the Government looks to tax "luxury" items more heavily.
