BMW R 1300 RT Revealed: The Ultimate Touring Machine?
BMW has introduced the R 1300 RT, a bike designed for those who love long-distance touring. Equipped with a robust 1300cc boxer engine, this motorcycle joins the ranks alongside the R 1300 GS, that share the same powerful boxer heart.
The new BMW R 1300 RT stands out with its large fairing, designed to offer enhanced protection against wind and weather, making it ideal for extensive highway journeys. The engine, a horizontally opposed, twin-cylinder, air- and liquid-cooled powerhouse, delivers an impressive 145hp at 7,750 rpm and 149Nm at 6,500 rpm and is coupled with a 6-speed gearbox.
In addition to its engine, the R 1300 RT boasts a sophisticated suspension system, with an EVO Telelever front and EVO Paralever rear suspension borrowed from the R 1300 GS. This setup is known for improving stability and steering precision, especially on uneven surfaces or during braking.
The bike's braking system includes twin front discs with radially mounted four-piston calipers and a single rear disc with a two-piston floating caliper, complemented by 17-inch cast aluminium alloys at both ends, which help to reduce the unsprung weight by 1.4kg.
The R 1300 RT doesn't just excel in performance; it also offers ample storage options, including twin 27-litre touring cases as standard, with the option to upgrade to Vario cases that can adjust between 27 and 33 litres. For those needing even more space, there are two topcase options with capacities of 39 litres and 54 litres, respectively, the larger of which includes a heated backrest for passenger comfort. Notably, the 54-litre luggage compartment is also electrically operated.
Technology plays a significant role in enhancing the R 1300 RT's appeal, with the motorcycle featuring an array of electronic rider aids. These include traction control, engine braking control, and an advanced suite that comprises active cruise control, forward and rear collision warning with active braking, and lane sway warning.
The flagship tourer offers three standard riding modes—Eco, Rain, and Road—with the Riding Package Pro adding Dynamic and Dynamic Pro modes for an even more customized riding experience. A standout feature is the 10.25-inch TFT display with an integrated audio system, a unique offering among BMW's 1300cc models.
The R 1300 RT is available in four distinct variants: Basic Variant, Triple Black, Impulse, and Option 719 Camargue, each with its unique color scheme.
