BMW Confirms 310 Series Exit - 450 Twin Lineup To Replace Range
BMW Motorrad has confirmed that its existing 310-series motorcycles will be phased out and replaced by an all-new 450 twin-cylinder platform, marking a significant shift in the company's entry-level and mid-capacity product strategy. The confirmation came directly from BMW Motorrad CEO Markus Flasch, who outlined plans to expand the 450 platform across multiple model lines when talking to MCN News.
The BMW 450 twin platform made its public debut with the BMW F 450 GS, unveiled at EICMA 2025. BMW has now clarified that this engine and chassis architecture will not remain limited to the adventure segment, but will form the basis for several future motorcycles that currently sit on the 310 platform.

The outgoing G 310 R, G 310 GS and G 310 RR will be discontinued over time as BMW transitions fully to the new 450 range. According to Flasch, the 310 platform has reached the end of its lifecycle, and the brand sees greater long-term value in consolidating its entry and mid-level offerings around a more powerful and versatile twin-cylinder engine.
Powering the new platform is a liquid-cooled parallel-twin engine in the 450 class, developed jointly with TVS Motor Company. In the F 450 GS, the engine delivers around 48 hp and 43 Nm, paired with a six-speed gearbox. BMW has confirmed that this same core engine will be adapted for multiple body styles.

BMW has indicated that the easiest way to understand the upcoming 450 lineup is to look at today's 310 portfolio. This suggests future replacements for the G 310 R (naked roadster) and G 310 RR (fully-faired sportbike), likely to be positioned as F 450 R and F 450 RR, following BMW's existing naming structure.
The F 450 GS will serve as the entry point into BMW's GS adventure range, positioned above the discontinued G 310 GS and below the larger F-series and R-series adventure models. The new platform allows BMW to offer stronger performance, improved refinement and better long-distance capability while remaining accessible to newer riders.

BMW will produce the 450 series in India in partnership with TVS Motor Company. This localisation strategy is expected to play a key role in keeping costs competitive in global markets, including India, Europe and select Asian regions. TVS and Norton (owned by TVS) will also produce their own unique motorcycles on the 450 platform.
With the 450 twin replacing the 310 single-cylinder platform entirely, BMW is effectively resetting its entry-level motorcycle strategy. The move also aligns BMW more closely with emerging competitors in the mid-capacity segment, where twin-cylinder motorcycles are becoming the norm rather than the exception.
