Bajaj Absorbs GST Hike On Pulsar NS400Z And Dominar 400 - Prices Remain Unchanged

Indian two-wheeler manufacturer Bajaj has confirmed that it will absorb the impact of the new 40% GST rate for motorcycles above 350cc. This ensures prices for the Pulsar NS400Z and Dominar 400 remain unchanged at current ex-showroom levels in India.

Earlier, motorcycles above 350cc attracted 28% GST and a 3% cess, taking the total tax incidence to 31%. The revised 40% slab would have increased ex-showroom prices by several thousand rupees across the affected Bajaj models.

Bajaj Absorbs GST Hike On Pulsar NS400Z And Dominar 400

The Pulsar NS400Z, which is currently priced from ₹1.93 lakh ex-showroom, would have faced a hike of around ₹13,000 under the new tax regime. Bajaj's decision to absorb the difference keeps the performance street-naked motorcycle available at its existing rate, ensuring that it remains one of the most affordable performance bikes in the country.

The Dominar 400, priced at approximately ₹2.39 lakh ex-showroom, is also shielded from any increase under the higher GST bracket. Bajaj has not disclosed how long this absorption policy will continue, but the move is already in effect nationwide.

Sales figures for July 2025 show Bajaj sold 1,160 units of the Pulsar NS400Z, accounting for 0.89% of its overall sales volume. The Dominar 400 registered 632 units, contributing 0.49% of Bajaj's total domestic two-wheeler deliveries during the same month.

Within the 350-450cc motorcycle segment, the Pulsar NS400Z commanded a 1.36% share, while the Dominar 400 achieved 0.74%. These numbers indicate modest but important contributions for Bajaj in the growing mid-capacity performance motorcycle space.

Bajaj has also stated that it will absorb the tax hike for Triumph and KTM 400cc motorcycles manufactured in India. In July 2025, Triumph's 400 range recorded 3,538 units and KTM's 390 series achieved 1,507 units, representing 4.15% and 1.77% market share, respectively.

Other manufacturers have announced similar measures. Aprilia's RS 457 and Tuono 457 models will continue at pre-GST prices, while BSA's Gold Star 650 is being offered at old rates for the first 500 customers as part of its launch strategy.

The new 40% GST slab for motorcycles above 350cc has drawn criticism from sections of the industry. Concerns highlight the disparity with cars, where the GST Council has lowered tax incidence on certain luxury models to an identical 40%.
