TVS Jupiter 125 Goes Green: CNG Model Expected By 2025
TVS Motor Company is set to introduce a CNG variant of its Jupiter 125 scooter, aiming for a market launch by 2025. This move follows Bajaj Auto's release of the world's first CNG motorcycle, the Freedom 125. TVS plans to be the first manufacturer to produce a ground-up CNG scooter globally.
Sources indicate that TVS has been developing various alternative fuel technologies and has now finalised a CNG powertrain for its Jupiter scooter. The project, codenamed U740, involves a 125cc CNG scooter. If all goes according to plan, it could be available as early as late 2024 or by mid-2025 at the latest.

TVS Jupiter CNG Launch and Engine Details
The company aims to sell approximately 1,000 units of its gas-based scooters each month. This initiative is part of TVS's broader strategy to offer cleaner alternatives and reduce its carbon footprint. A spokesperson for TVS Motor Company stated: "All the technology options (CNG, EV, multi-fuels, etc.) are very exciting, and we are interested. But as outlined in the previous investor call, our plan this year is to launch another electric vehicle, an ICE vehicle, and an E3W vehicle."
TVS Motor Company is renowned for its strong R&D capabilities and innovative market solutions. The company boasts a diverse product range that includes mopeds, scooters, motorcycles, an electric bike for BMW, and large bikes under the Norton Motorcycle brand.

Market Position and Sales Targets
With a market share of 18 percent and annual sales of 3.15 million units, TVS Motor is India's third-largest two-wheeler manufacturer. It also holds the position of the second-largest scooter manufacturer in India, accounting for one in four scooters sold nationwide. The company sells around one million motorcycles and half a million scooters each year.
The Bajaj Freedom 125 features a 2-litre petrol tank and a 2-kilogram CNG cylinder. It offers a mileage of 102km/kg for CNG and 65km/litre for petrol, allowing it to cover roughly 330km on a full tank of either fuel. Priced between Rs 95,000 lakh and Rs 1.10 lakh, it competes with other 125cc commuter motorcycles.

The current price range for the Jupiter 125 is between Rs 79,299 and Rs 90,480 (ex-showroom, Delhi). The upcoming TVS Jupiter CNG is expected to be positioned similarly upon its release.
TVS Motor Company's spokesperson further added: "We have already launched several variants of the TVS iQube this year. At the core of any choice that we make on technology is whether it will make TVS owners happy and proud." This new venture into CNG technology aligns with TVS's commitment to innovation and sustainability in the automotive sector.
